We stayed four nights &, overall, enjoyed it mainly, I guess, because the hotel is so strategically located in the altstadt district. We took a cab from the Hauptbahnhoff but the driver didn't recognise the name of the hotel but subsequently found it on account of the address which he only knew as a "pub" - & that's really what it is! Reception is the bar & on the busy night we arrived they were not really equipped to check-in late arrival house guests. No lifts & so many flights of narrow stairs to drag baggage up, etc. although we did get some much needed assistance from a "barman". Later we found ourselves in a rather modest room but all the essentials were there.Consequently, i couldn't really recommend the place to elderly tourists but I'm sure that it would be a real "fun" place to stay for the young adventurous folk. The street level bar is a very popular drinking/eating venue amongst what appeared to be mostly locals & the food is certainly substantial. I had a traditional German pork dish which,to me, was pretty ordinary but my travelling companion really enjoyed her musssels which seemed to be the house speciality. You can, however, eat better & cheaper very locally. i'd particularly recommend Mojo's just round the corner where the Greek waiter, Herr Zorba as we called him, was so welcoming & attentive to our requirements but haviing several soccer matches on TV at night can be a bit overpowering. However, that's not to say hat the hotel staff weren't as helpful as they could be in the circumstances, that is, if you could find one when you needed a replacement toilet roll, etc. Fortunately, having lived in Germany for a couple of years 50 years or so ago i could recall enough German to make myself understood but most of the elusive "domestic" staff didn't speak English so non-German speakers could find it rather difficult. Bottom line is, I suppose, it's all about "Location, Location" & you probably can't get much better in the altstadt close to both markets, the Rhine, with heaps of restaurants & nitelife bars close by & even the Konigsallee only a short walk away.

Room Tip: Try to get a room on one of the lower floors & one with access to the back fire escape where you can sit outside on a common balcony.

Very well located hotel close to the main tourist attractions and the Christams markets. All Christmas markets within walking distance, nearest only about 100m away. Visited Cologne on one day to see Christmas markets/cathedral etc. Well worth it, but I would recommend avoiding a Saturday for visting Cologne in Dec - absolutely packed. Great bars/ restaurants very close to the hotel.
Hotel very clean and well kept. Not too easy to find though, look out for the name of the restaurant below.

the hotel is lovely but lots of stairs to the top floor, which they will most likely put you because of the noise coming from the bar below. there isnt anyone at the desk ever so that can be a little frustrating, just call and leave a voice mail if you need anything and make sure they know when you are arriving.

We recently stayed at this hotel for three nights over New Year. We arrived at approx 7pm, there was nobody at a reception so we had to check in at the bar downstairs. The gentleman was friendly enough but told us the incorrect times for breakfast meaning we missed it the following day. Check the board as the times differ each day. Having been told breakfast finished we went back to our room and were just going to find a cafe for a bite to eat, 10 minutes later a member of staff knocked at our door with a tray of breakfast items and coffee! :) much appreciated. The room had most things we needed apart from coat hangers...a bit annoying when we were there for three nights. We did ask but I think there was a language barrier, might be worth throwing a few in your suitcase just in case. The room was clean and also had a balcony with table & chairs which I can imagine being very nice in the summer months. The hotel is in a great location, nearest U-Bahn is Heinrich-Heine-Allee.

Stayed here one night on a business trip ... arrived Sunday afternoon and could find no one in the restaurant (even though something that smelled wonderful was cooking on the stove) or in hotel office ... later learned that the office is only open part time ... communication was spotty at best ... maybe because of language differences, but more their internal system I think ... Be careful and clear ... My reservation had been made by a colleague in Germany, but somehow my name was in the book twice ... And FYI, they also do not take American Express ...
Rooms were clean and had no problem ... very good for a 1 or 2 night stay ...
Location was great to explore the downtown and river front area of Dusseldorf ... Just a street or two over are plenty of restaurant choices ... and if there around the holidays, the Christmas Market is close by ...
As noted in other reviews, access is tough as it is located on a non-traffic street ... since I travel lite, it was no problem to make the 1.5 block walk to the hotel, but if you have much luggage, not very convenient. The same goes for not having an elevator ... no need for a gym and stairmaster here.
