Staying in Mercure Nord and this was a local restaurant. Had an excellent meal for 3 people - main meals, dessert and drinks for less than 80 euros. The service was very good, we were greeted in Italian and German. The meals were freshly cooked and very tasty. Would recommend this restaurant.

We stopped in because this place is just around the corner from the Renaissance hotel. Let's just say that it's amazing that La Tosca has survived as long as it has, given the lack of cordial service. We were barely greeted by the woman who we can only assume is matriarch of the family. Then the only other server (presumably the daughter) came by, cursing under her breath and also barely acknowledged our presence. It took some 10 minutes to be seated and another 10 or so to get menus.

Order taking was perfunctory, bordering on rude, as if it were some sort of imposition. The food arrived fairly quickly, but was almost thrown onto the table, with the matriarch reaching across us, even though there was ample room all round our table.

The food itself was rather good, notably the wild boar tagliatelle. The pizza was pretty decent too. The prices weren't that outrageous.

It seems that even folks who must know the place get similar treatment. Just as we were leaving, a large party of local Italian Germans came in, and they too got the same strange "welcome".

There are no doubt plenty of places in Duesseldorf that serve equally good food and can find a smile to accompany it.

There is outdoor seating, but be aware that the restaurant sits a pretty busy and noisy junction.

We chanced on this place as we were staying in the nearby Renaissance Hotel. Dinner was lovely, the food great and the charming Italian family hosts could not have been nicer. Be prepared though for your meal to be served a little slower than other places, but the quality of the food is worth the wait!

The ambiance of this place is wonderful and it seems that it is run by an entire Italian family. The food was excellent and so was the service, however, it is very pricey.
