We ate at the Gold Elephant last year when we were here in Duisburg briefly. It was really good. We now have been back in Duisburg for a month and have eaten here 3 times. It never fails to impress. We love Thai food, have been to Thailand, and have several quite good Thai restaurants near us at home. But this is possibly the best Thai food we have eaten anywhere. Given how poor Asian food in Europe can be, it may well be the best Asian restaurant in EU that we have ever eaten at (excluding Soho in London; there's also a very good Thai restaurant there too near the British Museum; but this one is even better). The Pad Thai, the curries, the Som Thom papaya salad are all wonderful. The food is very fresh and the ingredients authentic. A bit difficult to find (between the Opera House and the Inner Harbor) on a smallish street, but if you are in Duisburg, it is worth finding it. The atmosphere is very nice and the people very friendly. Full bar in the restaurant as well. Not cheapest (about 45 Euros for 2 including 2 beers for dinner) Thai food you will find, but very reasonable for the fresh, excellent quality of the Thai food you will get.
