Everything is great. Clean and big room. One double bed. Good restorant at the lobby. Nice and kind people. Free wi-fi which is unusually for Germans. Hotel located near the downtown, but it's not very noisy.

I stayed here for just one night to break up my journey from Berlin back to the UK.

The location is great and it looks lovely from the outside. Car parking is easy and underneath the hotel itself.

I had the deluxe room which had a separate lounge and was clean and tidy. The bathroom had only a shower (which I'm fine with) and it was a proper power shower! If it was any more powerful it would probably break the skin! Haha!

Bar area and food area was good, beware if you are a UK traveller that they are still aloud to smoke inside here, I arrived got showered and changed then popped down for a quick beer, by the time I returned to the room I stank of smoke. I don't normally have a problem with smoke, but this really did smell strong.

Breakfast was usual Euro style with a pretty good selection.

Generally all was good about this place and would stay again for sure.

Room Tip: I had room 111, this was perfect for what I wanted and was very quiet.

The hotel is situated right near the city centre with only a stones throw to one of the biggest shopping malls in Germany. The actual city centre is a 2 minute walk from there. Where there are hundreds of shops and restaurants. Easy access to the underground stations the closest one is about a 5 minute walk. As for the hotel itself it is very clean and the staff are always happy to help and all speak good English. There is a problem with WiFi because you can not connect to it in your room, but the hotel reception has a sitting area where you can use your own laptops/tablets to connect to the Internet. The hotels Rooms are very big, nice and basic. There is a mini bar and tea area in your room, tv with 7000 Germany channels and one English Channel ( BBC World) however for the Internet lovers out there there is also a broadband cable for your use so I do recommend that if you want to use the Internet in your room then carry a laptop or a device that you can connect to a broadband cable to. Beds are really comfy pillows are amazing! ( now i think about it I wished I'd stolen them !!) bathroom facilities are good free lynx shower gel !!! It's calle AUX every else but its the same product. As for the towels i do feel awkward just throwing them on the floor it indicate that I need them changing, Maybe a towel bin to place dirty towels. Overall good experience done a lot of traveling been in some amazing hotels all over the world, and I do feel this is the best holiday inn I have ever stayed in. For the price and location it's a bargin!!!

Hotel feels like a relic from the 70s. Have a nice view of a car park from my room. Staff are mostly helpful. Internet is free because nobody can connect to it. Breakfast is average. Expensive for what it is.

We stayed there on a Saturday after attending a soccer match. The room was ready, check in was efficient and fast. There is garage parking as well as on street parking. the subway is 7-8 mins away. The room was clean, comfortable, German efficiency.
We were given two free drink coupons which we used for the absolutely fantastic Paulaner Hefeweizen Bier. We are IHG Gold, so that might have been it.
Everything worked, would definitely stay there again.

There are no surprises here. Everything works as expected, rooms are clean, spacious and quiet. Not a great spot for a romantic getaway, but convenient for business etc.
The location is excellent. There is a large shopping mall over the street and downtown Essen is almost as close.
The only complain was the shower. This seems like a spot the hotels never check. The shower head was clogged and only a little water coming through. Was painful to take a shower, like little needles on your skin.

Our family of two adults, two children stayed for a night at Essen Holiday Inn during a long road trip from UK to Copenhagen. The hotel was everything we needed; a good night's sleep, an extension so we could sleep in after arriving late, and polite and efficient staff. Essen is an interesting former industrial city which is making a great effort to reinvent itself as a cultural centre while retaining pride in its industrial past.
