I stayed at this hotel for night on a business trip. The rooms are nothing fancy, but practicle and have everything one needs for a night.
Staff were helpful and nice from check in to check out. Breakfast was good with a broad choice of bread, cereals, jam, cheese, cold cuts etc.
The hotel is very well located, not far from the main station and other places of interest.

Very nice hotel in the centre of Essen. Quick check in time. Rooms are well sized and are clean and modern. Only complaint which is common to a lot of European hotels is the temperature controls. The room was extremely hot and I could not seem to cool the room via the control unit on the wall. Can't open the window as the hotel is on a busy road with traffic throughout the night but the double glazing is very effective. The rooms are well soundproofed so you don't hear anything from your neighbours. Walking distance to shops, restaurants and bars. Recommended.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the back of the hotel as rooms at the front are overlooking a very busy road.

I traveled with my boyfriend for a business trip. This is a very nice, clean hotel close to 2 malls and lots of outdoor shopping. While he was in meetings I did a bit of shopping at a very nice new mall (several floors).. We stayed on the 5th floor in an executive suite. It was large, clean and well decorated. Breakfast each morning was very very nice with a huge variety of items.. (from salmon, meats, cheese, breads, cereal, and fresh fruit) very very nice. My only complaint, Internet was slow at first, but overall reasonable.. (I paid for faster service)... They call this a business hotel. I would think internet would be free and/or faster.. Staff was welcoming and always helpful. I would definitely stay again if traveling to Essen.

Room Tip: Get a room on higher floors..Definitely better rooms.

Great hotel, fabulous service, excellent restaurant and a cool little bar. Rooms are absolutely top notch and extremely well-maintained.
Do watch out that if you apply for a twin bed they cannot guarantee it so arrive early on check-in day for the best chance or accept the possibility of sharing a double.

Room Tip: Arrive early if you booked a twin room, they are limited.

I have stayed at this hotel several times and each time it has been excellent. The food is absolutely brilliant. The service was extremely helpful. The location was great being close to the railway station and also supermarkets etc...

Will return if I'm ever back in Essen.

Thanks for an enjoyable stay.

This hotel has friendly and knowledgeable English-speaking staff and is conveniently located near two tram stops as well as a shopping area. Also as noted in the other reviews, the breakfast is great.

The hotel is 1 minute walk from the Viehofer platz (Line 107 & 106) tram station and a 5 minute walk from the Rathaus station. Rathaus station is also linked to the mall where a Real supermarket is located.

Pros: friendly, English-speaking (and of course German-speaking) staff.
Close to transportation
Sound-proof windows (there was a concert at the University a few blocks away and we didn't hear it at all)
Close to mall and shopping area.
Limited free wifi.

Cons: Other than the mall and university, the area is a bit drab and dull. If you wanted to be in an area with more character, I suggest somewhere closer to the Philharmonie or Gruga Park.
Wifi is slow and the signal is weak. We had to sit by the door to get a good signal.
Air conditioning is on the weak side.

Personally I would not stay here again only because I use the internet a lot. Otherwise the hotel is a fine place to stay. One more thing though, if you have arthritis or carpal tunnel syndrome, this may not be the hotel for you since to squeeze to dispense the soap dispensers in the bathroom and shower.
