Very convenient, near the railway station but difficult to find. As you leave the station, immediately turn right, then after 50 yards you pass Sparkasse (cash machines). Then bear left and keep going for about 90 yards and you are there!! It is particularly difficult to find at night.. I received a very friendly welcome but it took about 15 minutes for them to book me in even though they had my booking form ready for me to sign. Everything else was competent: breakfast, comfortable room, service at meals and in the bar. When I contacted them after I thought I had left some items behind, they went looking for them and emailed me back within minutes. Very helpful and assuring.

It was a good hotel and almost Okay for what you pay. It is very close to Gelsenkirchen station. The shopping street is also very close by. Inspite of all that, it is almost quit (when windows are closed). Room and buffet breakfast were also good. So in upsort nothing very great but good for what you pay. It is clean and spacious hotel. Staffs are very good. Although they understand very little English but they will cooperate and try to understand what you want. Internet Wi-fi is having some issue, so always ask for multi-login internet access card. TV remote is having pay channel button also(will show you erotica and blockbuster movies), thus take care and decision is yours. Thus, it is overall good to stay hotel for simple budget.

We stayed here in Jun 09 for 5 nights, room only as the breakfast is over-priced by a long way (go to the Hibernia bar 2 mins stroll away instead for a really good and cheap buffet breakfast). Where do I start? The reception staff were uninterested, sometimes surly. Towels were taken away but not replaced, bedding not replaced at all, beds not even made some days - and collecting one’s own toilet paper from reception always makes you feel like you’re staying in a quality establishment. Room was reasonable size and clean (apart from somewhat mouldy grout in the shower). If you are from the UK think “Travelodge that’s seen better days” Lots of TV channels, though if you aren’t German there are only two in English. No tea/coffee maker. Hairdryer which overheated and shut itself off after only two minute’s use. Beware rooms at the front of the building – the hotel is on a busy ring-road, and the traffic noise is constant 24 hours a day, and very loud. No air conditioning means you either boil at night or stay sleepless because of the noise. Another gem was the “muzac” which played in the corridors 24 hours a day – the speaker was right outside our door and lying awake listening to a poor version of Celine Dion at 3 am isn’t our idea of fun. Reception staff expressed surprise every night when we rang them to ask that they switch it off (which thankfully they did). The elevators were on the blink also, and since we were on the fourth floor this would have proved very difficult if we had had mobility problems. We booked this hotel through hotels.com for a very cheap rate and, as the hotel includes a pass for public transport (meaning you can get trains, buses, trams etc to as far away as Dusseldorf) this was very good value for us, as we were exploring the area. It was also very near the station. We had stayed in 2008 for 3 nights on a B&B package, which had been very well priced, but this special was not available this year. We would have to conclude that this hotel has gone downhill quite a lot in recent times. The only reason we’d stay here again is the free public transport pass, and only if we got a very cheap deal, as there is an Ibis nearby.

The reception staff were very polite and professional giving a good welcome. The hotel is well positioned for the train station (free travel ticket on arrival) and for the town as well. The bedroom was comfortable, quiet and warm. Breafast was excellent with plenty to choose from. I would not recommend drinking in the bar as the prices are very high and there are plenty other bars available - there is also a Pass supermarket at the back of the hotel with many very reasonable options. I would return to this hotel.

We booked one night via an agency website and later added a second night (arranged direct with the hotel) after a helpful exchange of emails. The hotel's own website offers special 3-night deals.

The 1st floor room (actually for disabled people, so a walk-in shower) was on the street side but we had no problem with noise. Decent bar prices, and the breakfast looked good, but (at €12) we found a much cheaper place round the corner.

We found staff friendly and helpful. We got an outside parking place for free otherwise it's the basement car park (at a charge), but having hired a car we left it there and made the most of the free travel card available during your stay - for trains trams and buses in the whole region. You only get it at check-in so can't use it from the airport, but could use it to get back to the airport on your last day. It's a significant benefit to make the room price very good value (two people taking a day trip to Cologne by train could recoup the cost of the room!).

The hotel is just a few steps from the train station, as hotels of this chain usually are. Rooms to big street outside can be noisy, to the back they are much quieter. Rooms are clean, have a standard interior and only lack some personal flavor. Bathroom small, but clean and everything looks rather new. Best thing about the room rate: Ticket for public transport (including the neighboring cities) is included. Breakfast unfortunately not included, and too expensive at 12 EUR. I had coffee and a bagel at Dunkin' Donuts in the train station for 3 EUR and was happy with it! Otherwise the hotel is a clear recommendation, while the town of Gelsenkirchen is not! Very boring, better stay in Essen, just a few minutes by S-Bahn.

This is a nice hotel in a good area. It is clean, neat, friendly, and has a great location right near the train and shops, fast food, etc. The breakfast is decent and the rooms were very nice, good bed, bath and other amenities. The decor is nice and the windows open wide. I was very comfortable in this hotel.

The Mini bar and other prices are average.

They sell wifi access in a better way than other places in that you buy a pass that is good for a number of hours of your choice and these hours are only used while you are logged in and you can also use this credit for up to 2 weeks within their chain of hotels. Additionally, this hotel provides you with a free local transportation pass which is good on the city buses as well as the train and is easily used by simply showing the pass. I used it twice with no problems.

I would recommend this hotel to friends and I would stay there again. This chain is a much better value and quality than the similarly located Ibis hotels. (I have stayed at those too).
