Hotel Kocks am Muhlenberg

We stayed here on our wedding night and were very impressed. We just had a standard double room which was very clean, well appointed and more than adequately fitted our requirements. The lady on reception was friendly attentive exceptionally helpful and could not do enough for us.
The breakfast was good and the staff were all very friendly and helpful. If I didn't live in the town I would stay here again.

On the first look it appears to be a nice hotel. However, later it turned out that "high speed" wifi internet never ever could go past the startpage, that is how "high speed" it was. They give you an internet code on reception, but it is useful only if you are out of paper, and you need to write somewhere. Then I was quite upset with dining facilities: breakfast in the hotel is below average, with poor selection of food and one must have rich imagination to find it tasty. Nearby the hotel I didn't have luck of finding any decent place either. Even in the center of the city restaurant quality is quite low, so if I ever come here again, I will probably have to bring food from home :) And the last thing is the TV which had very limited amount of channels - for instance I couldn't find broadcast of finals of Confederation Cup (Brazil-Spain) which is ridiculous for event of such standing. So I had to search for sportbars in the city and only the 4th attempt 3 km away from hotel was successful - at least they had a TV. And it was the only oasis of life, as elsewhere there were no one on the streets, it looked like completely abandoned town.
Room I stayed in was ok, in a quite dull featureless design, but the main problem was the curtains - not much of lightproof. So judging by my experience - I don't think this hotel should have 4 stars.

I stayed here for work for a week, and I could not have asked for better. I was worried coming to Germany in the first place due to my language barrier, all the staff here was able to understand and speak english (I know it sounds bad, but hey, you can't learn German overnight). The room is nice, clean, and has a nice bathroom. The internet is relatively cheap for Europe (6 euros for 24 hours, with a 500 MB limit). Breakfast is very nice, with quite a selection. It has a great location to downtown, being a few steps away, but off the road for not so bad traffic.

We stayed here to visit the Christmas market in the castle which is a two minute walk from the hotel. The Christmas market was not great - the idea of a torchlit market in the grounds of a medieval castle is lovely, but the reality was it was too dark to see anything and half the stalls were on the grass which meant a muddy trek to see them. It was also fairly small and, combined with the entrance fee, was not worth it (especially for us, a family of five). However, the hotel was really quite lovely. The rooms were spacious with lovely bed linen, and the sauna and gym were very nice. The breakfast is great - one of the best I've had with a great selection of breads, hot food, fruit, cereals, juices, etc. What makes this hotel stand out is the standard of service - the staff were ever smiling, helpful and courteous and went out of their way to help us with our questions about somewhere to eat in the evening, how to get to places in the day, etc. It is a refreshing change from the grumpy service we get in the Netherlands where we live!

Stayed here one night midweek - arrival was very late however polite and professional assistance from reception. Everything about this small Hotel is clean and in order plus well above average service. Good sized bedroom. Breakfast choice good. Would recommend to anyone looking for the one or two night stay.
