“comfortable, clean, efficient, will certainly revisit”
Reviewed 2 January 2014

I had a three-night business trip in Paderborn, and thoroughly enjoyed my stay at the Galerie Hotel. The staff spoke excellent English, were very quick to respond to missing lightbulbs, and the room was wonderful: large, super comfortable and clean. Once I worked out how to use the upwards-pointing concertina blinds on the windows it was also very private, and quiet. Breakfasts were also very good value for money.

i arrived in the dark, so I realised the beauty of the city centre only in the morning: the river Pader is actually coming to surface near the hotel!
building is 450 years old, it is charming
clean hotel
hot water for shower arrives very slowly
single room: small, but good bed
i had a room overlooking to the other buildings, I was waken by the morning preparations: loading the kitchen with fresh goods :-(
no elevator, I had to climb stairs with my packs
breakfast was fantastic, everything is real: scrambled eggs from real eggs, jams, croissant, hams, cheese all tasted fantastic, fresh, tasty - SUPERB
staff very helpful and friendly

Room Tip: ask for a room overlooking to the main square - can be noisier but the view...

On the plus side, this hotel is in a very central and picturesque location, overlooking a park and far from any traffic noise. The building itself is quaint and has its charm, and the artwork that is on display throughout the hotel is a lovely touch. I also think it's great to have free WiFi with decent signal strength throughout the hotel.

However, our room (number 24) was very disappointing. It was tiny and dark and crammed full of very old-fashioned, somewhat mismatched furniture. The bathroom was basic with traces of mold on the ceiling. Cheap, slightly frayed towels, very cheap soap that irritated my skin, no shampoo/ conditioner or even body lotion at all. The mattresses were comfortable, but the rest of the bedding was mismatched and the duvet and pillows lumpy. These are basics that are quite easy to fix!

Breakfast, on the other hand, was lovely. The buffet, though small, had plenty of choice and the coffee was strong and good. We were part of a larger group that was in town for a wedding, and the hotel had set up a large table for this. Sadly, there was no service to speak of and the table got very messy very quickly. I would have expected the service team to keep an eye on it and remove dirty plates and rubbish more quickly. Walking through the restaurant, I spotted many tables in similar states and it's just not nice :-(

Room Tip: Avoid room 24, it's too small.

well situated in the center, very clean hotel with spatious rooms. A bit noisy from the other rooms. Good breakfast, parking available closeby. Very good alternative for the bigger hotel chains, friendly personel. Good start for visiting Paderborn.

We liked:
- location downtown
- building, oldest house in town
- paintings
- it was clean
- Internet for free

We did not like:
- quality of the bed
- the rooms look much nicer on the photos,a real standard room for almost 100€
- service is average

Be aware: this hotel has no elevator and a lot of stairs!!!!!

We will certainly not return to this place.

This is a beautiful hotel situated a stone's throw from Paderborn city centre. Although the hotel is close in proximity to the centre, it is very quiet and tranquil. The building itself dates from 1563 and is absolutely charming. The bedrooms are airy, well decorated and comfortable with huge bathrooms, that have a bath and a good shower.

Food is served in the small, but beautifully decorated restaurant. The staff are extremely nice, helpful and professional. They speak reasonable English and try very hard to please. The food itself is of excellent quality, slightly expensive, but good all the same.

Our only grievance was there is no hospitality tray in the room. It is advisable for those who require a morning caffeine fix to bring their own travel kettle and coffee sachets. Hot water was provided for us on request, but it is not quite the same.

The owner of the hotel, an artist herself apparently, really lets the hotel down. She is unfriendly and unpleasant, ignoring guests and also talking about guests needs in a disparaging way with the staff- (we couldn't speak German but our daughter can!)
Also a useful addition would be an English translation of the hotel's amenities as we were a little unclear on breakfast times and check out times etc.

Aside from the small items above, the hotel is a delight to stay in. We would return in a heartbeat, and our particular thanks go to Angela, whose help was invaluable.
