We arrived after a nightmare journey across Europe and the hotel lifted our spirits immediately. The staff were welcoming and friendly (and spoke brilliant English) and we had be unexpectedly upgraded to an apartment room which was very spacious and perfectly clean.

The room was huge, which it needed to be to hold the massive bed. It was very comfortable and furnished in such a way as to bridge the gap between modern and vintage perfectly. It was cleaned daily to maintain the high standard.

We opted to pre-book the breakfast each day which was lovely. A good mix of British and classic continental with platters of cold meats and cheeses, bacon and egg, and fresh baked rolls. On a Sunday it goes from good amazing with an even bigger spread.

We chose to eat at the restaurant on two evenings, enjoying the beer garden and even more friendly staff. The beer was excellent (and served in a pint or man-sized stein) but the food was evenb better.

If there was just one way to improve the stay it would be a fridge and kettle in the room but this was such a tiny blip in our week-long stay that it barely registered.

The atmosphere in this hotel is relaxed and welcoming. From the rustic feel of the restored mill, to the comfortable room and on to the friendly staff and great food, it was a brilliant stay and we will definitely return each time we go to visit our friends in Paderborn.

Room Tip: Our room was above the reception and had a veranda overlooking the beer garden and fields beyond. It was an apartment but we had been unexpectedly upgraded from a standard double.

Stayed for three nights for a wedding in nearby Schloss Neuhaus. Good rural location but not too far from a bus route and the town of Elsen. All the staff speak English, and are very helpful. Would happily book again!

This is a fantastic little place.

We didn’t specify a time we would arrive but they kept the kitchen open late especially for us - the staff were so courteous and friendly.
The room was adorable and very clean.
Excellent breakfast and as much as you want for $5 Euros.
Beautiful building and lovely surroundings.
Would definitely recommend and will be back.

Stayed for three nights whilst visiting my son who is stationed at Paderborn. Rooms are clean and cosy. Food is good value and tasty, and popular with locals. The beer is great! However the best thing about this place is the staff ! I speak virtually no German but they were patient with me and spoke pretty good English. They are also blessed with some of the prettiest barmaids I have ever encountered!!!
