beautiful. Glad to take the boat and went around the Rhine Valley. Took a lot of pics. Love the little towns. I regret I didn't buy the cuckoo clock in one of these souvenir stores :) Instead I bought a little house which tells you the temperature. When it is hot, the woman comes out. When it is cold, the man comes out. I also bought chocolate cigars from one of the chocolate stores.

i like the history behind the cat and mouse castle :) You can find a more detail historic description in You Tube.

Recently travelled with the coach firm Leger Holidays for a Rhine and Mosel River Cruise aboard Princess Christina.
Brilliant relaxing holiday.
The journey to Cologne was a bit of a trek but well worth it once we arrived.
By comparrison to some of the other river cruisers our ship was only small with about fifty cabins, we had a cabin on the Prominade Deck, which was absolutely fine, worth paying the extra few quid for. Cabin was spotless and cleaned every day food was good and of course the german beer on draft was excellent and not a bad price.
Visited lots of nice places and it was Octoberfest the week we were there so lots to see and do.
Most of the staff on board were Slovakian and they were brilliant, couldnt do enough for us.
if you are looking for a relaxing week I can recommend this type of break, just sitting on deck in the sun with beer in hand watching the world and castles go by, heaven.
Well done Leger and well done Princess Christina.

It is a place that requires some time to see the many castles and how the river flows through the valley. If you do it by car or bike you will probably stop many times to fully enjoy the view.
We went during the month of December, but it was not snowy. The disadvantages for December are, no regular cruises by the river, the landscape is not so green, and there are not so many sunlight hours.

We wanted to stay a few days along the Rhine River, and by a twist of fate we wound up in the village of Bacharach for our three day stay. This was quite a happy coincidence, occasioned by the fact that the type of accommodation we needed (a two bedroom apartment) was not available in other nearby towns (Bingen, Boppard, St. Goar), leaving us with Bacharach as our destination. Having booked our place (booked through Live Like a German), we drove to the Rhine River Valley from Prague, and were absolutely enchanted with this lovely little town from the moment we entered. This is not to say that the other towns we considered were not themselves lovely, but once we saw the other villages we'd considered staying in while in the area, we concluded we had landed in the "fairest of them all".

We also arrived at another conclusion while staying in Bacharach. That is to look at restaurant reviews, if you can, BEFORE you select one in which to dine. Our first meal in Bacharach, at a restaurant we basically stumbled across while orienting ourselves to the town, was rather mediocre. Before we chose another restaurant, we looked up reviews of restaurants in Bacharach, found several there were highly rated, and selected two of them for each of our remaining nights. BOTH were outstanding, and we were quite pleased we'd done our research before hand.

Bacharach is a small village, with a near-medieval feel to it, as most original structures are half-timbered; built in the sixteenth century or earlier. The streets are narrow and cobblestoned, with stone archways and narrow alleys. One of them had a little stream running alongside, crossed by little stone bridges. Of course, there was a castle perched high above the village. While there were tourists, the town was not over-run with them and the town did NOT have a touristy, unauthentic flavor. The woman at the Tourist Office, who spoke excellent English, gave us extensive and useful information about how we might best travel the Rhine, using the train, and/or boats, and/or bicycles. I could go on, but in essence WE LOVED BACHARACH!
