“An oasis of calm”
Reviewed 1 August 2013

I cannot recommend this wonderful garden enough if you want somewhere to relax and unwind in a bustling city. The garden is beautifully kept without a weed in sight and when the flowers are out earlier in the year, it must be even more stunning. Well worth a visit

“Soothing city break”
Reviewed 30 July 2013

The garden is a nice place to take a break from the city's noise and traffic. One of the highlights for our kids is feeding the koi fish in the pond. The little gift shop at the entrance sells bags fish food for a minimal price. There is a snack bar in the garden, but you can also bring your own picnic.

“Nice stroll”
Reviewed 25 July 2013

Gardens were nice. Very pretty water falls and small lake. A couple of statues and some pretty plants. A lot smaller than I thought. Entrance was pretty, it cost 3 euro per person. Has a pretty souvenir shop that sells some Japanese items. Nice place to sit and relax a little bit. The area outside the gardens has a couple of nice stores to shop. Parking is easy and free on the weekends across the street from the gardens. They also have a small parking area. There is no place to eat there, in case you were wondering. Overall, it was ok.

“I hope your experience at this garden will be better than mine!”
Reviewed 8 June 2013

If you look at the website for the Japanese Garden Kaiserslautern you will see that the website is in both English and German -- except the opening times/ prices/ special events and other SIGNIFICANT information is ONLY in German. Dandy.

Today, June 08, 2013, my spouse and I drove nearly two hours to visit this garden. Because it was 5 P.M., the price of admission should have been € 4,50 per person. No, it WASN'T. We were charged a WHOPPING € 12,00 Euros per person!! Why? Because other facilities in K'town were having a Day of the Open Door -- and this was the admission price for THAT event. We explained that we had no plans to see anything OTHER than the Japanese Garden, and we were standing there at the gate during their NORMAL opening hours. "No, sorry ... we must stay open late tonight ... so we must charge you the FULL price of € 12 Euros per person!!"

Well, since we had driven SO FAR, we paid the exorbitant fee. Was it worth it? Absolutely NOT. If you have NEVER been to a Japanese garden, perhaps you should go to this one. If you have been to other Japanese gardens -- give this one a MISS. Here are my reasons why:

1. The garden is filled with plants very common to European gardens: Hostas, azaleas, bamboo, ivy, irisis -- these will appear NUMEROUS, NUMEROUS times -- and some of the more unusual oriental plants that you are likely HOPING to see -- that you've NEVER before seen -- won't be there.

2. No plants whatsoever are NAMED in this garden. There are no labels. This is a garden for strollers -- not for people who are interested in learning about and identifying unusual plants.

3. Though we had paid GOOD MONEY to be in this garden, the teeroom was closed. A sign on the door said "Closed due to private function in progress." There was no private function there. When I went to the shop, the worker there said, "No, no, no! We are NOT open!"

4. There is a facility that offers snacks. It was completely uncharming and un-Asian. Think beer tables and Coca-Cola signs. This place has a sign stuck on the sales shack that says "tee-variety" --- I think you are aware that there are lovely teas in Asia -- and believe me, the Kaiserslautern Japanisher Garden is NOT the place to savor them.

I suggest you phone ahead before going to make sure this 'Grade C' (my opinion) garden is REALLY truly open and what the admission fee REALLY is. Good luck.

“A nice relaxing Break”
Reviewed 22 March 2013

We took a little time to stop and smell the flowers.. Literally... While small, the garden had some exqusite plants. They are still gearing up for the spring rush.. But, I would recommend going to see it...
