Why bother?

Review of DIEHLs Hotel
3.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 20 Nov 2016via mobile
Straight out of the 80s, this hotel is in bad need of an upgrade. And what about the trains rattling the whole building throughout the night? Breakfast is also average. The restaurant is so so sad. The only part worth saving are views of the lake.

Dear Guest,

thank you for taking the time of sharing your impression about your stay at Diehls Hotel. We appreciate feedback – be it positive or negative – as it helps us to improve our product and services.

But we sorry to read, that we have not been able to meet your expectations in every detail. And we are sorry that you were bothered by the noise from the train.

On our hompage you can read the fact that the hotel is located right next to railway tracks with trains (on the first page). The railway line behind our hotel is regrettably only for freight trains. The noise was one of our problems, but we did a lot to reduce the noise. Over the years, we have invested significantly in noise protection. We have, for example, had soundproof windows installed and also had the entire building insulated against noise. Since this investment, we were very pleased that a lot of guest hear almost no train noise in the night from inside the room. But if you are sensitive to noise, you could hear the train sometimes.

We would also like to mention that the most of our guest rooms are renovated and modern. But you right, not all areas of the hotel has been renovated. But it will be launched in the near future.

Best regards
Family Diehl-Mehlhorn & Team

Great location in the old part of Koblenz; I had a superb single room overlooking the river. Cosy Bar, excellent dining rooms and terrace; good and ample food; good service. Very clean; also, very welcoming

Room tip: First floor overlooking the river

Very comfortable and spacious room with river view. Free undercover parking useful for motorbike. Easy walking distance to restaurants or use cheap ferry ride across the river. Plentiful breakfast with waffles made on request. Helpful friendly staff. Good wi-if. The hotel photos show a pleasant looking veranda, which we were looking forward to using for an evening drink but this is only for restaurant customers to use. A good stop off for one night before setting off on our trip down the Rhine.

We had just returned from a Rhine cruise and saw our hotel as we passed by. Getting to it was another story. Our GPS led us down a walkway that was very narrow and most likely meant for pedestrians. We finally found the entrance after much driving around.
We had dinner in the hotel and the food was good but the service was slow. Breakfast was very nice and tasty. I would stay there again as I know how to get there. Our room was very nice and also had a Rhine view. The train noise did not bother us a bit and ear plugs were provided.

We stayed at this hotel either end of our cruise on the Danube booked with River Cruise Line. On the way out we stayed in a room at the front of the hotel, we did wonder what the ear plugs in the bathroom were for, we were to find out on the way back. The Sunday night was fine with a nice meal. There was a little noise from the trains but it was a Sunday night, so a reasonable nights sleep.
We arrived back in the hotel 8 days later, A Monday night, we were in the back of the hotel, outside our room was a narrow corridor, outside of the window in that corridor was the railway line with virtually non stop traffic, I'm not talking normal size trains, I'm talking long industrial trains.
When we asked to move room we were told the hotel was full. we did have a nice meal that night but no sleep.
It was like living in one of those cities in America with the railways right outside the window.
I did complain to the hotel at the time, to no effect. I did complain to River Cruise Line also to no effect, other than saying they inspected all of the hotels they use.
My advise don't use this hotel but if you do check the room out first.

Dear Guest,

we thoroughly regret that the stay did not match your expectations.

But we address the problem of the train noise openly. On several platforms as well as on our own homepage we make known that our hotel is situated in close proximity to a railway line.

However: Many of our guests enjoy a good and healthy sleep thanks to a high investment programm to reduce the noise level.

In fact – over the last five years we invested in noise control including windows in guest rooms and gangways, air-conditioning to reduce the need of opening windows.
In addition the windows feature a special element to allow a flow of fresh air even with them being closed.

We also installed sound-proofed doors (DB 42 – the best on the market at the moment) as well as sound-proofing the walls of our guest rooms.

Everybody has a personal perspective towards noise. Many of our guests don´t feel disturbed by noise anymore since we finished our improvements. For others it might still be a factor.

But we think: It is possible for all to gather ample information about our hotel prior to booking.

Best regards

Unfriendly staff, rooms and dining area needs updating. We didn't enjoy our stay as we weren't made to feel welcome and did not understand this as its a family run hotel. We waited 45 mins to have our order or drinks delivered for dinner. We had to get in car and go somewhere else, we didn't even attempt to eat or drink in the hotel after that. Its a shame as location is great

Dear Guest,

thank you for taking the time of sharing your impression about your stay at Diehls Hotel.
We appreciate feedback – be it positive or negative – as it helps us to improve our product and services.

But we have to make one thing very clear: We are always open to constructive criticism, but this means fair interaction with each other, to deal with others in a respectful manner.

I regret that you felt our staff was not accommodating and helpful. That was surely not intended.

Regarding your comment about the restaurant service: We ask erverybody at Check in, if they would like to reserve a table. So the problem of long waiting doesn’t occur. Without a reservation in our restaurant you may have to wait, depends on how busy we are.

Best regards
