“An absolute gem!”
Reviewed 8 May 2014

What a wonderful find! My other half booked this for a bit of R&R the week after our wedding and I must say he found a gem! The room is beautiful, large and very clean yet characterful. In fact when I say room, I’m not being entirely accurate as you get a suite – you have a lounge (with a log fire) all to yourself as well as a toilet and lovely big bathroom. You have homemade biscuits (made by Maggie herself) and fruit in your room also as well as nice toiletries in your bathroom. The B&B is also in a lovely rural setting, with beautiful views all round. I must say, it is in the other details this place really stands out from the crowd. This B&B lets out only one room; as a consequence the service is really personal with tons of attention paid to detail. Every morning you are treated to breakfast at a time which suits you (a lovely touch!), as part of your (fantastic) breakfast you get homemade bread (you can smell it baking the evening before its lovely) and fresh squeezed juice (squeezed there and then) as well as eggs from their own (very happy) chickens (all the chickens are rescue chickens too which I think is really great). In addition, Maggie and Fred will drop you to and from local pubs, to save you driving and you even get an afternoon tea with fresh scones during your stay! On top of all this – Fred and Maggie are really, really lovely, friendly and helpful. They go way out of their way to help you and make you feel at home. I do not think we have ever met such kind B&B owners and we felt genuinely sad to leave and say goodbye to them. We will definitely return – with Alfie (the dog- he LOVED it there) too! x

Rockhaye is deserving of all the lovely reviews on here. You arrive to a very warm, relaxed welcome and delicious home made biscuits. The room and ensuite is lovely, with a large bath, washing machine and tumble dryer and the most comfortable big bed! The surroundings are peaceful, pretty and perfect as a relaxing base. The full English breakfast is absolutely delicious, particularly the scrambled eggs and fresh orange juice. Thank you Fred and maggie for such a lovely weekend.

It is always difficult when booking accommodation to envisage what you will find,Rockhaye is all everyone has written about it and more.I would liken it to having your Mum and Dad back again spoiling you for a few days, giving you such a lovely welcomed feeling nothing too much trouble for them. You would be hard pressed to find all the detailed thought they put in to make sure you are pampered and not wanting for anything it was perfection.Try it yourself you won't find better we loved it Fred and Maggie .

Our second stay here was just as good as the first. A log fire awaited us on arrival, with tea and home-made biscuits a very welcoming touch. We availed ourselves of Fred and Maggie's offer to drive us to and from The Mason's Arms restaurant, about 7 miles distant, so we were both able to enjoy a glass of wine with our meal.
Slept very well in this tranquil location, and enjoyed Fred's excellent Full English next morning. Freshly-squeezed orange juice was particularly appreciated.
Fred and Maggie are wonderful hosts and we recommend Rockhaye without reservation. Wonderful!

We absolutely loved our stay at Rockhaye. We arrived during the worst weather to a beautifully lit cottage with roaring fire, a pot of tea and some rather amazing homemade biscuits. Fred very kindly offered us a lift to the local pub where we had a dinner reservation. We had our own lounge to relax in by the fire, beautiful large bedroom with en-suite and stunning views. We woke up in the morning to chickens mooching on the lawn, a wonderful full english breakfast and a selection of newspapers. It is the attention to detail that makes this place special. We would have loved to stay longer. I have never written a review on TripAdvisor before but as we thought it was such a gem of a place we had to share! My husband and I will definitely return and would highly recommend it.

Room Tip: There is only one room that is perfect for a couple but if you had a small baby or child I would ima...

Really welcoming hosts, lovely wood fire, marvellous food and a really great atmosphere - a wonderful place to stay would have really liked to have stayed longer The situation of Rockhaye is great. there are a number of walks nearby and it is possible to walk to the village albeit up a hill. We ate at the pub in the village and found it very fine. Agood atmosphere with food to match. Maggie and Fred went out of their way to be helpful even finding a church for me to attend an early morning service on the Sunday I think that a good amount of the food came from local sources. Fred even makes the bread for breakfast and gets a paper for you. The homemade biscuits made by Maggie are OUT OF THIS WORLD, .

Room Tip: fred and maggie only accept two people at a time and there is one excellent bedroom with all the fac...

We had a one night stay due to our accommodation at the Mitre Inn being booked out.We were welcomed by Fred who offered to drive us back into Witheridge for dinner which we gratefully accepted . The room was amazing such a beautiful setting in the Devon countryside , you feel you could escape from the world there and stay forever .After coming back from our dinner out Fred had the fire lit it was so warm and welcoming .Breakfast was amazing cooked by the gorgeous Maggie who shared her farmhouse kitchen with us gladly. A wonderful stay needed longer!!!
