Not the greatest of hotels. Some way from the station in a poor and run area. The lobby is quite nice and the public areas are clean and well looked after but the rooms are a disappointment. They are quite big but the furniture and decor are dark, old and in dire need of refurbishment. The air conditioning is almost useless with no appreciable difference whether it was on or off. The pillows (just two) were dreadful, thin and soft providing no support whatever. The towels were grey. The breakfasts were uninspiring; several items had run out and not been replaced and the 'hot' food was tepid. The choice of cold food was a little better. There was free wifi in the lobby but was charged for - highly - in the rooms. If Strbucks can provide free wifi for the price of a coffee why do hotels still charge for it. They do not charge for electric or water or tv why wifi? Please include it in the price of the room. It is now almost impossible for most people to travel without using wifi. Why make it more difficult? There was a time when the Hilton brand stood for quality. What happened? Most of them are now little more than businessman's boxes totally indistinguishable from the other main chains. At least the staff were pleasant and the food in the louge was very good.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for sharing your feedback on Trip Advisor, we appreciate your comments and most certainly the opportunity given to review.

Your feedback is much appreciated and I am sorry to read that you were not entirely satisfied with your stay. At the same time I would like to thank you for your compliments on the friendliness and helpfulness of our staff.

Regarding the internet prices, I would like to inform you that we are currently in negotiations with our internet provider to offer a lower price in our guest rooms. Until then we hope that our offer of free internet in the lobby and meetings area provides an acceptable alternative.

Again, thank you for staying with us and taking the time to give feedback.

Best Regards from Mainz,

Rebecca Kipper

I got locked out of the room as the key did not work; they could not repair & made me sleep in another room, missing my medicines. Next morning I was woken up at 5:30am and asked to shift all my baggage to a new room. Further there was no real apologetic feeling or compensation for the experience. It was not a great experience.

We stayed in the Hilton Mainz City on two occasions in July. The hotel was in walking distance of the Mainz Haupt Bahnhof, the Sixt Car Rental office and the old area of Mainz. The staff spoke excellent English and was very helpful and accommodating. They even provided a very large bucket of ice cubes for us hot and thirsty Americans. Parking was available beneath the hotel for an extra charge. Free WIFI internet was available in the hotel lobby. The desk staff provided the access password. The room was clean, well appointed and air-conditioned. Unfortunately, it was very hot in Mainz during our stay and the air-conditioning was not as cool as we are used to in the States. We purchased breakfast along with our room rate and thoroughly enjoyed eating on the enclosed patio. Visitors to Mainz should be careful not to confuse the Hilton Mainz City with the Hilton in Mainz that is located on the Rhine River.

This is a nice hotel in a convenient location for seeing Mainz. Everything was clean and modern. The water pressure in the shower was amazing. The bed was a little too hard though. The staff were pleasant and helpful.

The only reason we give this a 4 star rating is because the wi-fi in the room cost $15.00 per night. If we had free wi-fi, we would give 5 stars without a second thought. The staff is very friendly and very helpful. They were able to communicate very well with us in English and provided a map and directions for locating the places we wanted to see. The location is perfect for sightseeing and visiting historic places. Everything we wanted to see was a short walk from the hotel. There are also many places to eat, drink and shop nearby. The buffet breakfast is wonderful, albeit a bit on the pricey side. The buffet has a large selection of choices and the food is good. We were able to check in early due to the availability of a room. I am often unable to sleep well in hotels due to back problems, but I slept well due to the comfort of the mattress and pillow. Other than the wi-fi, we cannot say enough good things about the accommodations here.

Stayed here July 2013. It sits directly next to the Rhine River which I really enjoyed since you can sit out on the dining patio in the evening and watch the ships go by. Also, enjoyed watching all the people bicycle or walk the paved trail between the river and the hotel patio...Rooms and staff are all great also. Hotel food is great, too. Very good place to stay!
