“Great Hotel”
Reviewed 23 June 2010

I stayed two nights at the Hilton Mainz City and was very pleased with the hotel. I arrived early and was given an early check-in and the individual at the reception was polite and accommodating. The rooms were good sized and the bathrooms were excellent. On my first day, the hotel sent up a small platter of chocolates to the room. It was a very nice gesture. The hotel is a bit on the pricey side for Mainz but the location is great (10 minute walk to the Altstadt and to the Dom) and the staff is the very best. I will definitely stay there again on my next visit to Mainz.

My teenage daughter and I stayed two nights. The staff is fabulous (speaking fluent English), and had answers to every question, helped with sight-seeing info, etc. Room is American-sized with the chairs, desk, flat screen TV. Big bathroom. Wifi is 19 Euro per 24 hours, parking is 19 Euro per day. We used Hilton points and therefore the breakfast wasn't included. (The breakfast buffet was 21 Euro and, although pretty good, not worth it.)

Awesome location! It's 5 minutes by foot to the pedestrian zone, which includes the theatre, Dom, old town, and even easy walking distance from the Rhine River where you pick up the river cruise boats.

Mainz is a pleasant city for a stopover, there is a pedestrian area between Weissliliengasse / Kirschgarten / Marktplatz with half-timbered houses and views on the Cathedral (see images). At the Weissliliengasse, there is a craft brewery called Eisgrub: a trendy (and crowded) place for locals.

There are two Hiltons in Mainz, one is situated along the Rhine (from ouside looked the business purpose type), while the "City Mainz" is more of a larger boutique-style hotel, ideally situated in a quiet park area (see image).

The receptionist Sabina extends a very warm welcome. There is a bar in the lobby and an inner court for the nice part of the year.

The comfort room is classy (see image) and, for German standards, particularly roomy. Same applies for the marble styled bathroom.

The only issue I had, was that the Nespresso machine was on, but did not function. It was repaired when I was back in the room. I think, it is not ecological and likely no good for these machines (nor for TV's and the like) to have them permanently switched on. My suggestion : PLEASE SAVE ENERGY.

Overnight self-parking in-house is €19 ...

As a resume, a (nearly) perfect stay.

We stayed here on our last days in Germany Feb 2010. We arrived just in time for Fasching Festival. Which is centered within 2 blocks. The hotel is close to the "Dom" and not far from the train station. It is only 2o minutes from the Frankfurt airport. The hotel was extremely clean. We had drinks at the lobby bar. Although we ordered unusual Rum drinks, they were made to perfection. The breakfast was included and was great. Best of all it was half the price of the Hyatt!

The rooms (we stayed in a standard double room) are nicely decorated and have all the commodities you need in a hotel (flatscreen tv, phone, radio alarm clock, iron and an ironing board, hair dryer). The only thing I didn't like was that the WiFi wasn't free, but actually pretty expensive - €10 an hour! With these room rates I'd expected it to be included! The breakfast, however, was excellent!

Stayed just the one night but the hotel was very nice and the service was outstanding - I even left a tip for the reception staff and commended them in the questionnaire at the hotel.

The hotel is in a back street but easily accessible to the main area of Mainz. It is attractive inside and the rooms are nicely decorated.

The only negative is that the food and Internet connections are rather expensive. Would happily go back.
