Description: Welcome to Weinhaus Michel the only pub in the old town of Mainz where the bartender serves his own wine. Stefan Michel comes from Weinolsheim near Nierstein, where his family has been growing wine since 1756. We've been into ecological wine-growing for years, and we use organic fertilizers, for example.Since food keeps body and soul in harmony, we offer lots of great things to eat, from Mannzer Spundekas to our done-in-the-pan meals to tasty dessert of Cherries, Michel-style. Our "wine personalities" are very special; they lovelingly describe the characters of our wine. Astrid and Stefan Michel and their team wish you a fantastic time in the heart of Mainz's old town.

We had an amazing dinner on the street where you do not need a reservation to eat. The food was unbelievable, and the location is quaint. I would eat here again - everyday.

“Welcoming atmosphere, memorable Kirschenmichel mit Vanillesosse”
Reviewed 18 February 2012

My husband and I were in Mainz last month on a Saturday night and wandered without a clue into Weinhaus Michel's. Although it was still quite early (5:30 pm or so) we got the last table that wasn't already occupied or reserved. Having been turned away (without reservations) from the restaurant across the street we had originally been headed for, we felt luck was on our side. Once we realized how friendly the Michel's staff is and how the delicious food hit the spot, we knew we were in the right place at the right time.

As my husband enjoyed his plate of Mainzer Fleischwurst and salad of fresh greens with delicious vinaigrette, I ate every morsel of my Dibbekuchen platter (leek and apple pancake with a small salad). We watched as group after group (both large and small) was turned away, disappointed that they could not be seated or would have to wait.

We don't always splurge on dessert, but one had caught my eye during the initial look through the menu (English version available). We shared a heavenly warm Kirschenmichel mit Vanillesosse--Cherry Bread Pudding (menu reads Cherry Bread Pie) with Vanilla Sauce that was worthy of any five-star restaurant.

The cozy (small) restaurant has a wonderful, welcoming atmosphere: tiled floors with lovely carpet runners beneath and grapevines with tiny white lights above. It was difficult to tear ourselves away but we ultimately did. In the blink of an eye, two more customers took our places.

Not including the several glasses of beer and wine, our dinners for two of us, including shared dessert, cost $35 (26.5 euros).
