“Lords be praised!”
Reviewed 27 February 2014

Had to hang out in Mainz during a strike in the Frankfurt Airport and chose this museum as it was in the very centre of the city. Easy to access and with the english booklet also interesting to browse on your own, but if Udo is there he'll take you through the exhibition AND MORE! Never seen a guide so into the topic and speaking such interesting stuff. I suppose Udo can answer all of your questions regarding the temple and Mainz in general. Well worth the visit and make sure to donate if you enjoyed it as much as we did!

“Not what you expect under the mall”
Reviewed 29 December 2013

Mainz is an old Roman town. So often when they prepare to build, they find more ruins. This occurred when they started building the Romer Passage. So they preserved the site and built the shopping center over it. There is no admission, donations graciously accepted. Tour and information plaques are no in English. There are a few attendants who speak English and if not busy, they will take you through. This is the only shared temple to both Egyptian and Roman gods ever found. Beneath it there have been Celtic ruins found.

“Damp squib”
Reviewed 16 November 2013

We searched like crazy in the Mall to locate this in the basement. It seemed very contrived and did not appreciate the demand for a donation at the exit.

“Nice surprise”
Reviewed 24 August 2013

Underneath the shopping center the Romerpassage (very close to the Landesmuseum) you can visit the remains of the ancient temple of Isis and Mater Magna, which are shown in a nice, kind of mysterious lighting. The entrance is free, so you can just pop in after shopping. In the room with the remains also some finds and artefacts are shown with some explanation.

“OK if you can read and speak german”
Reviewed 4 August 2013

It was very clean & comfortable, but very dark lighting (for the purposeful effects). It looked fake, like a replica, too tidy for ruins. It was donation only.
