“Overbooked?”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 August 2014

Having booked the hotel in January 2014 we arrived in August only to be told that there had been a problem with the server and there was in fact no room at the inn. A quick call by reception to another hotel and we were gone. The new hotel said that this was always happening. Was this a server error or a policy by the hotel to overbook to ensure maximum capacity and any others send elsewhere. Beware and make your own mind up.

This hotel is in a beautiful, quiet setting just outside the centre of Trier. We had a family room in a separate building from the main hotel, in the attic. The room was enormous with a super king size bed, a lounge area and a separate bedroom for the kids. The bathroom was well appointed with a rain shower.
The food in the restaurant was so good the first night we ate there the second night too. The waitress didn't speak much English but was very tolerant of our poor attempts at German and between us we muddled through. There was a translated menu and a German phrase book to help.
The owner/manager was very friendly and couldn't be more helpful.
All in all this was a fantastic hotel we would all gladly visit again should we be in the area.

We only stayed on night last August while travelling through but were impressed with the hotel and the value it offered. Staff were friendly and welcoming. We had two rooms to accommodate the five of us and they turned out to be in different buildings. One was a regular double room in the main building above the breakfast room and the other was about 50 metres away in a separate house and was actually an apartment. Both rooms were fine, spacious and clean. The breakfast buffet provided both ample choice and quantity. A minor downside was that the free wifi code failed to work on the devices we had.

Plenty of free parking and you can walk down to Trier in about 15-20 minutes - down hill all the way and the uphill trek on the return is a good way of walking off the dinner you may have had in Trier City Centre!

If arriving by car, from the direction of Trier, it is quite easy to miss the turn and you are then almost in Luxembourg before you can do a U-turn. As you come across the bridge driving out of Trier follow the main road to the right. It then starts to go up a hill and between two rocks faces. As you get to the summit take a right turn. The hotel is actually on the left of the main road but this side road takes you back around and under the main road to the left side. There is a sign for the hotel directing you right as you come up the main road but we didn't see it until it was too late to safely turn right, Still, Luxembourg was nice!

This hotel excels in everything but location unless you arrive by car - the rooms are huge and so well-appointed, the staff is excellent though they were very busy and harried when I arrived so check-in took the better part of 15 minutes. The restaurant makes delicious food and the location is quiet and idyllic - but it is not really "Trier". Especially coming from town, walking over the bridge plus the ascent up the highway to the hotel is not my idea of idyllic, so this is strictly a place you stay with a car or one where you should be prepared to take a taxi to anything in town. It is, otherwise, a beautiful place to stay.

Fantastic is not enough. Wonderful staff. Willing to help in every way. Dinner was outdoors in a beautiful setting. Food was delicious! LARGE well appointed room. Comfortable bed. Rain shower. Safe. Everything you need for a comfortable stay. Wish we had made it for a longer stay...next time we will!

The Stadtwald Hotel is located on the hillside just off one of the main routes into Trier and is very easy to access. There is ample parking just outside the front entrance. The hotel is divided into two blocks with a very short covered connecting outside passageway. There are plenty of tables and chairs outside where you can relax and have a meal or drink.
We were welcomed on arrival by the owner who is very helpful and speaks excellent English if required. Our room was really spacious and well appointed with a beautiful modern shower room with a great shower. Wifi reception was excellent.
We were there for three nights and ate in the restaurant on all three occasions. The food was really good and included some regional specialites. They have a good wine list with a number of local wine growers represented. The staff on duty were really friendly and contributed to a thoroughly enjoyable meal.
Breakfast in the morning was a buffet and included the usual fruit juices, cereal, muesli, yoghurt, fresh fruit,
cold meat and cheeses. In addition there was the hot option of boiled or scrambled eggs or bacon. This together with a variety of rolls, bread and croissants provided a good start to the day. Something I have never seen in a hotel before was the provision of paper bags so you could make up a roll for lunch. In addition there was free coffee available all day in the restaurant. There is a lift to provide access to the bedrooms and the beds are really comfortable. A lot of thought has gone into this hotel to ensure guests have an enjoyable stay and I would thoroughly recommend staying here. It is certainly on my return to list..

The English translation of the name of this hotel is “City Forest.” This describes the location, which is on the hill across the river from the center of Trier and in a wooded area. Our two-bedroom unit was especially nice because it was in a secluded area, separate from the main building. We used a taxi to get from the train station to the hotel, and later we walked from the hotel to the sights in Trier. This walk would have taken about 20 minutes if we hadn’t frequently stopped to take photos of the town and the Mosel River. The rooms consisted of a large living room with a bed set up in it, a bedroom which my daughters used for the privacy, and a large bathroom. The breakfast was comparable to others that we had during our trip through Western Europe. The apartment was an excellent value for the four of us.
