“Good hotel on the outskirts of town”
Reviewed 5 August 2014

We stayed at Nells Park for one night in July. The staff were lovely and very helpful- we arrived early and they allowed us to check in. They also provided us with a map and gave us directions into town. We decided to walk and this took about 20-25 mins. The room in the hotel was lovely, very big, modern and comfy beds. We booked online and they have a number of rooms saved for these bookings. They do offer a room upgrade (with a view of the park) for an extra 10 euros but we we're only staying one night and didn't upgrade. We used the gym (bike, treadmill, crosstrainer) and there were drinks and towels available. The hotel had lots of car parking spaces and we had to pay 5 euros for one night. A nice hotel, I would stay here again.

Strong points are very friendly staff at nice location at a park outside Trier City. However, the hotel and the restaurant are very basic. The rooms are really small. Not really as luxurious as presented on their website. No airco, rooms therefor are not adequate for hot Summer days. It's also not possible to open the windows at night because of the busy street the hotel is located on. Bring ear plugs if you are a light sleeper.
The sauna is really, really nice with the sunbathing terrace. It's included in room price. But there is no swimming pool as you would expect in a wellness hotel. The wellness treatments are not as 'luxurious' as you might expect from the website. If you want more adventure, go to Chaudfontaine in Belgium.
Wifi is free, but very, very slow....

Tried for over an hour to go thru their heavy handed WiFi approval system. You have to provide a mobile # and then receive a SMS - never did. Only other way is to get a code from the staff but you have to sign a notice that you can be prosecuted if you violate someone's copyright. Signed (despite expressing discontent) but their network is so low powered the connection drops despite my room being 10 meters from the front desk - 1 or 2 bars max. So no internet.

Instead, I am using my mobile's international 2g roaming connection part of my $70/month carrier's plan to write this review.

First time in my life I have had to sign a document in order to access a hotel WiFi. Last year I visited >9 countries and stayed at >35 hotels and >130 nights. This experience is so out of the norm that I decided to write my first review.

The staff seems helpful and the place nice but is impossible to recommend a place with such a draconian and ineffective WiFi access. I stayed at two cheaper places in Trier and there was none of this WiFi silliness. Some manager/owner here does not understand their customers in today's Internet era. I also contrast this to last week when I had free access to 66Mbps down and 48Mbps up connections at two Scandinavian hotels - again without this silliness.

Bottom line: if web access is important to get your work done - look elsewhere.

We spent a minibreak in the Mosel valley region and were happy we chose Nell’s Park hotel as our hub. The hotel has an ideal location: close to the motorway, but not too close to be noisy; close to the inner city of Trier but not too close to be hectic; in town but still with a country feel to it due to the adjacent park.
The room we were given (OK – we came too late with our booking) was in the basement but still had everything you needed.
Breakfast was included in our rate and it offered everything that belongs to a good breakfast.
Worth mentioning is the spa that belongs to the hotel complex. We treated ourselves to massages and used the sauna facilities.

We selected this hotel for the ease of getting to it after driving for 5/6 hours. It was easy to find and the setting in the parking was delightful. The restaurant looks out onto the park and I'm sure that in good weather this must be a very popular spot. We enjoyed the visit for 2 nights and the staff in the restaurant and the hotel were very friendly and helpful.
Our room was a little on the small side but for a 2 night stay it was adequate and it was quiet. There were a number of smoking rooms nearby and this was quite obvious in the corridor, but we couldn't smell anything in our room.
Breakfast buffet was very extensive and had a good quality. We had dinner int he restaurant one night and it was pleasant and good value.

Room Tip: the rooms on the park are larger and cost more, depending on your length of stay you may decide that...

The Nells Park hotel is small but spotlessly clean and well maintained. The room we had was rather small but well equipped and the beds were comfortable. The staff are very helpful and professional, which is always welcome. The hotel spa is of an outstanding quality and I warmly recommend it.
The only problem is the location of the hotel, out of the city itself and situated in a semi- industrial zone. The park is not lit at night so coming back by bus and crossing the park to get to the hotel is an adventure.

Room Tip: If you are staying for more than a couple of days, or if you have large suitcases do not choose a st...
