“Nice hotel in the heart of Dresden but...”
Reviewed 6 July 2014

This hotel had a great location. Near the 7 tram line. Near the Elbe river, but the Air conditioner wad terrible. It was hard to sleep. The wi-fi service was terrible. I would hope they get this fixed.
Breakfast was very good

This is one of my top 10 hotels.
The hotel's location is perfect, close to everything we wanted to see. Staff was extremely helpful and very friendly, there is parking and wifi available. The room was just lovely, and the food - great.

We come to Dresden regularly to visit family there. We really liked this hotel. Booked 6 days online pre-paid in Jan and got a really good deal. The location is excellent (1 or 2 minutes walk to the Frauenkirche/square/bars/ restaurants/river terrace...10 min walk to shopping centre...a quick walk to the opera where I saw an excellent performance of Tourandot...). We had room 412 which didn't have a great view but was pretty quiet for a city centre. The walls seem to be well insulated for sound proofing as are the doors so you rarely hear anything in the building which was great. Beds are big and comfortable, the room has space to move and a really well designed shower room.....plenty of room for the two of us. Toiletries are provided and a room safe and other usual things that you would expect in the room. As I wear glasses I was particularly impressed by the excellent magnifying mirror, much needed for make up and such a rarity that I always pack my own!! Small things make the difference......Asked for more hangers and pillows and they came quickly, no fuss. The window opens fully which makes the room feel airy but the air conditioning is too warm and needs to be able to be made cooler. It was 31 degrees outside by the time we left and the room was very warm indeed. My husband was able to order a big hire bike as he is very tall, all sorted out for 10 e a day and a nice message left in the room telling us that all was ready for him. We ate a good breakfast at the Swiss restaurant in the square as we thought 20e far too expensive in the hotel but by all accounts from other reviews, it is a good feast. The 'Twist' bar is good but not very big. Staff there very proficient and nice to watch the cocktails being made...loved the Basil infused water!. Reception staff professional, friendly and helpful. Use the open air car park at 6e per day just a short walk away if you don't feel like paying 20e a day at the secure hotel car park or even more (around 28e for 24 hours at the underground car park near to the hotel entrance). A few small things to say that would improve the room experience...but not huge problems......cleaning could be better, the soap dish was never cleaned until i left it obviously in the basin without the soap nor were the bedside tables wiped which eventually became so visibly dusty that I made a point of putting the phone etc on the bed to indicate that these tables need attention. The area around the basin was not cleared of our bottles and wiped, just what was clear. Also when staff came with pillows she knocked and just walked in without waiting for a response as did the cleaner who had forgotten to give us milk. We were having a little sleep...could have been more embarrassing!! We took to using the 'do Not Disturb sign' to avoid further potential invasions! FREE WI FI is expected at this standard of hotel please. We will very likely use this hotel again. Thank you to everyone for a good stay.

Room Tip: 412 faces outward and is on the 4th floor so less noise from hotel central atrium bars in the square...

While the location was excellent next to the Altstadt there are some negatives. The courtyard facing rooms are noisy. Since the AC is anemic at best I was forced to keep the windows open and the room was still too warm. Even though the Twist bar had an opening time of 18:00 it never was at that time. No free WiFi was a huge bummer. Also chose to show the Germany/Belgium and Argentina/Swiss games (which I certainly get), they failed to show the USA game. I too would have liked to see that on the big screen. Hmmm makes you think. Not sure I'd recommend this property. I chose this based on a great experience with a Melia property in Hanoi. Unfortunately did not have the same vibe with this hotel.

We were pleasantly surprised to be given a TP-LINK wireless router when we checked in on 17 June. It works great.

This is a fine hotel, well located with a helpful staff. I would not hesitate to recommend it.

This will be my abiding memory of the hotel and it should not be. The breakfast buffet was probably one of the best I have experienced over many years of business travel, the lifts are very efficient and rooms superb - apart from the fact that the lowest setting on the air con is 19 degs which is a little too warm for us. It was extremely hot outside - 35 deg by day so opening the windows was not an option.
We travelled to Dresden to meet up with ex business colleagues and the booking was made by a German however many in our group were also astonished that in 2014 when free WiFi is so widely available that having paid 145€ for the room per night we were then expected to pay 4.95€ per 24 hours to have Wifi. One of our party was so incensed that on principle he went to a nearby coffee shop that offered free Wifi. The excuse from the front desk staff was that the hotel was tied into a contract with Deutsche Telekom.
Whilst talking about the front desk staff they were always polite and most helpful and it is a shame that the hotel management forces them to apologise for lack of a facility that is now very commonplace as a free facility.
Dreden is an extremely interesting place to visit and we shall probably return but will absolutely avoid the Innside because of the rather trivial reason which is a pity as it's location and in all other aspects a very good hotel. It is also noticeable that others have made similar comments but the manager who posts a response never mentions it - could it be it strikes a raw nerve?

Dear Colin058,

thank you for taking the time to tell us about your experience at the Innside by Melia.

We are glad to see that you nearly globally enjoyed your stay with us. Thank you very much for your superior comments about our exceptional breakfast buffet, the stylish rooms and the friendly staff.

On the other hand I'm very sorry that our WiFi service did not meet your expectations; please allow me to express my sincerest apologies. Our front desk staff did indeed inform you right, that in the moment we are not able to offer free WiFi due to long term contracts. But I am more than happy to tell you and the tripadvisor community that we already work on a solution for this matter and I am confident that we can offer free WiFi latest in the beginning of 2015

Rest assured that we are taking every comment more than serious because we strive to provide a superior service experience for every customer; therefore your feedback is very important and valuable to us.

We appreciate your sharing your opinion, and we are looking forward to welcome you again in Innside by Melia Dresden
