“The Only Place to Stay in Dresden”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 December 2012

This is an excellent hotel. But let me preface this with a few things: I am a Gold Hilton member, and this was a reward stay. However, I would have payed the price advertised because it was just that good.

Arrival was pretty painless. We drove directly to the hotel and was able to park in their underground parking. Very tight spaces, and some were reserved by the hotel (I guess you can call and reserve), but we arrived at about 3 pm, so no need to.

Check in was very smooth. The front desk receptionist was very warm and welcoming. We went up to our room, which was the king junior suite duplex. The room was very spacious, had a double sleeper couch on the first floor, and a king bed on the second floor. The second floor also had a couch (which we used for our 10 year old). There was also a raised area with a dining table, small mini-bar fridges on both floors, and complimentary fruit and bottled water (very nice touch). The view was of the tops of the sites around the Altstadt, so not a whole lot to see.

Staying on that floor (the 5th floor) allowed us to use the Executive lounge. This proved to be the best part of the hotel. Morning breakfast was included in the lounge, but if you went downstairs to the lobby, they charged 26 Euro. Very expensive for breakfast if you ask me. So the lounge breakfast had everything you would need, just on a smaller scale. They had a typical "European" spread with breads, cold cuts, yogurts, salads, but also eggs, bacon, and sausage. All were excellent.

During the afternoon hours, the lounge offers tea time, and this included cakes/tortes/stollen (a must have in Dresden). Also coffee (from a super-automatic machine), tea, and soft drinks are available as well. Happy hour is from 6-8:30 during the week and 6-8 on weekends. This has beer, wine, and liquor along with some small bar food (some hot, like cheese poppers). Once again, comes with the room if you are on the executive floor or business floor. Well worth the price.

The bed was, well, very stiff. Typical of a European bed, this was a touch rough on our backs, but the shower with excellent soaps / shampoo made up for it. Bathrobes and slippers were also provided with the room as well.

I have to give a big thank you to Johann and Mandy in the executive lounge, as they were always available and helped us in any way they could.

The pool area was nice sized, and had an indoor hot tub. The water could have been a bit hotter, but that was not a big deal. They also had an outdoor jacuzzi that could seat 8. Very nice facilities.

Check-out was simple, and painless. Parking was OK for 20 Euro/night, but after being in Norway, this place is cheap.

With everything said and done, this is one of the best hotels to stay at, in the world for the price range ($150 - $300 per night). The location is absolutely perfect. Right in the middle of the Altstadt, next to the Frauenkirch. Easy walks to everything this wonderful city has to offer. The customer service is top notch, and the manager should be commended for ensuring guests felt welcome there.

Room Tip: Get the duplex room with executive lounge access. You will not be disappointed.

Arrived in the evening, and checkin was really great. The receptionist (woman - I did not get her name) welcomed me as a HHonors goldmember and I was upgraded to Executive floor. Really nice treat and benefit from the gold membership!

She gave me a map of the city and gave me recommendations of what to see and experience. Dresden is full of churches, the most famous "Frauenkirche" is just a few meters away from the mainentrance.

Room was great, on the 4th floor (executive level). Fresh fruit and a "personal" letter in from the manager welcomed me in the room. Nightly turndown service, dont know if this is a benefit from the executive floor, but a nice treat when you arrive in your room after dinner!

Executive lounge was nice, located on the 2nd floor. Good range of food products both for breakfeast and for snacks in the evening.

As mentioned in other reviews, the location is perfect with lots of sights just outside the door. All in walking distance!

Will definately stay here again when returning to this beautiful city!

Room Tip: Executive floor!

Nice atmosphere, great breakfast, friendly staff, just like you would expect from a hoyel in this price range. I find it rather disturbing, though, that they charge extra for WiFi even 2012. Considering it didn't work very well does not add value either.

The hotel is located in the old city. Almost all the tourist spots are within 5 min walk. It has clean and comfortable rooms, as well as a goog Japanese restaurant. Highly recommend.

I've stayed at this hotel twice & I love everything about it. The location is probably the best bit; opposite the Frauenkirche and as you step outside the door you are surrounded by lots of different restaurants, yet you aren't disturbed by the noise in your hotel room. On my second visit, my car was parked for me by staff, so I had no hassle; just had to let them know 20 mins before I wanted it back. The rooms are typically Hilton; comfy, spacious, modern. Breakfast isn't cheap (€16 continental), but it is substantial, with a massive choice. The spa is excellent & whilst you need to pay extra for the sauna, the rooftop jacuzzi is included in your room price & is a must!!!!

Room Tip: Make sure you try the rooftop jacuzzi :)

Met with friends for a weekend in Dresden. The staff were very helpful and the location is near all the attractions in the old city. My room was 3003 where I had my window open most of the night. There was a lot of street noise and I was too warm with it shut. Lack of free Internet is never preferred, but at 15 euro I considered that rate excessive.

My room was spacious and well received. My view was great of the river Elbe and the local street. I would definitely stay here again.

Very central location and within walking distance to most attractions. It has the feel of a standard and somewhat anonymous international hotel, but that will probably appeal to many people. Very good selection at breakfast and nice pool.
My principle gripe is lack of free WiFi.
