Wonderful location in a beautifully restored building; excellent service and facilities. In-house restaurants pricey by local standards but you get what you pay for. Can't be faulted.

The hotel is a former palace and has kept its standards as such. The architecture, the location, the quality of the beds/ of the breakfast have transformed my stay into it a unique experience.

I spent just 1 night at the hotel with my friends, but I think it is one of the best hotels in Dresden. Needless to mention Mr. Obama staying there when in Dresden. The hotel's location is absolutely great - right next to the museums and all great places (not so many actually) to see in Dresden. This is not the cheapest hotel I ever stayed but you cant expect anything but excellent service at Kempinski.

The Taschenbergpalais is a very special place and I am glad that my husband and I were able to stay there. I appreciate hotels with a history and the Taschenberg definitely has plenty. Built by August the Strong for his mistress and almost completely destroyed during WWII, it has been rebuilt to its former glory.
Throughout our 3 day stay service was impeccable, and our room was very quiet. Everything in our room spoke of quality and the decor was classy (a mix of modern and Japanese laquer furniture), although we only had a standard room. The bathroom was spacious and also very tastefully done.
Our room did not have a view, and other reviewers have noted their disappointment over this, but we got such an excellent internet rate ($180 a night) that we felt we definitely got our money's worth.
We never ate in the hotel as there are plenty of (cheaper) options very close by.
The location of the hotel is unbeatable: the Zwinger and the Green Vault are just across the street, and the Frauenkirche only a minute's walk away.
We are already looking forward to another visit in the future.

Former review is very accurate as we had a very similar experience. We booked a standard room which, although very comfortable, was very dark and looked out onto a back street. It had only one tiny window. It was only on our last morning after seeing into other rooms that we realised that some had two windows and others three. We felt rather annoyed as we were on a four day stay and these other rooms had often been given to groups on one night stays.Advice to others is to request bright room and to ascertain position of room before accepting allocation.

Great location- right next to the main museum area and also the opera house. (Altho the Westin which has views looking across the river at this stretch may possibly win on views?). My room was at the back of the hotel- so sadly despite a 245 euro room only rate which I think was probably too much- I only got the view from the back- of an irish bar and other not so wonderful buildings -and had a fairly dark room. I think I would have been much happier in a front room facing the historic buildings. The hotel has been rebuilt to a high standard- and stands where the palace of the mistress of the king lived.

The room was good- comfortable, well furnished, good size, with 2 comfy chairs and a small table, good bed, desk and chair. No coffee making facils or iron tho- I wish all 5 stars wld include these! Good bathroom too.

Great touch sending up a welcome gift and card.

The day time staff were excellent and efficient. However, the evening shift was utterly disorganised... to put it mildly. I hope they were just having a bad night and not the usual standard? Management were most apologetic though for the saga of errors and issues- and I got a discount so at least it was handled well.

I ate outside the hotel as plenty of cafes and restaurants around so cannot comment on the food- and as it was a sunny day: good to sit outside.

I would recommend this hotel if you can get a good rate- seems like there are some good deals out there from other peoples' comments. Or try the Westin- a short walk over the bridge but I suspect probably with great views from the rooms? I would also recommend trying to buy a ticket for the opera before you get there- as due to tour groups- it sells out fast... At the moment there is still a lot of reconstruction work going on- including roads and squares dug up- so may be worth waiting a while until completed and when all museums are open again. Some were not when I was there- so check!
