The Swissotel is located in the historical center of Dresden. It is a brand new hotel, opened in April 2012. The hotel offers spacious rooms with high ceilings and state-of-the-art design. I had room # 345 with an open room / bathroom design. The bathroom is an integrated part of the room with the sink behind the headboard of the bed. There are 2 frosted glass cubicles, one for the toilet and one the shower. All necessary amenities are available. There is ample storage and hanging space for clothes. Furthermore, there are coffee and tea making machines, including a Nespresso. The hotel has a spacious lobby / lounge in the shape of an atrium; all is extreemly clean. The staff at the reception, but also in the restaurant and the bar is very friendly and helpful. One has the choice of 2 breakfast options, one in the main restaurant with an extensive buffet for € 22 or a breakfast in the bar for € 9. The latter is served at the table and consists of only a few small sandwiches, fillings and coffee. Although right in the center there is no noise during the night, neither from adjacent rooms. Rooms are equipped with non-slam doors.
The restaurant offers a good menu for a dinner with good wines. The menu displays all information about the origin and supplier of food and wines. Below the hotel is a public parking garage, but there are several parking garages in the immediate vicinity of the hotel. The price for all parking is € 20 per 24 hours. The hotel offers free WIFI with a very good reception throughout the hotel. All in all a great hotel and a great value!!

It could not be more central in front of the Grünes Gewölbe and Dresdener Schloss and near the Stallhof. The room was lovely and very well organized in terms of space, we had a beautiful view from one of the windows was very silence.
The breakfast was very nice and complete. The staff was very polite and kind.
A Wonderful hotel.

The Swissotel Dresden Am Schloss is absolutely wonderful. All of the major attractions are easily accessible. The staff is extremely helpful and friendly. They have excellent restaurants. My mother has gluten and shellfish allergies and our waitress and the chef worked with my mother to make her a great meal. The rooms are modern, spacious, comfortable and full of amenities (WIFI, drinking water, tea and a Nespresso machine to name a few). We had a great experience and can’t wait to go back.

This is an excellent hotel - modern, quiet, comfortable, well located, well equipped and superbly clean. Only downsides were the expensive on-site parking and the price of the buffet breakfast but secure parking was available nearby and of course there are lots of different cafes and bistros to try out!

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view!

This brand new hotel was wonderful -- clean, comfortable, impeccable -- and best of all, situated in a fantastic location. The room was large (with high ceilings), bright, equipped with all amenities (including an espresso maker); the hotel also offers specialty pillows (although we enjoyed the ones already on the comfortable bed). The sink, toilet and shower were in the middle of the room (an unusual configuration that I had never seen before) but everything "worked". The price was extremely inexpensive for a 5 star hotel (and 5 star experience). We will definitely stay there again on our next visit to Dresden (which was a magical city).

We stayed in this new hotel for two nights. It is a very nice hotel, with some weaknesses.

To start with the strengths: As others have noted, the location is outstanding. The hotel entrance is right opposite the entrance to the Dresden castle. Frauenkirche, Zwinger, opera house, all are within 5 minutes on foot. The rooms are well equipped, everything is brand-new, WiFi is free, and the staff are generally very friendly. We got our requested late check-out without problems.

There are a few weaknesses, though. Some of these are fixable. Staff still need a bit of training. For instance, in one case, one of the bellboys was taking the elevator with us to the garage. Usually, he should have let us alight first. Instead, he went first and then proceeded to go through all the doors ahead of us. Other staff failed to greet, even in reply to having been greeted by us. We notice that people in Dresden in general are not terribly polite, but Swissotel needs to fix this.

Breakfast needs improving. The quality was OK but not great, the range was rather meagre, and the cut fruit should have been fresher. Cappuccino tasted like Douwe Egberts or some similar ready-made perversion of real coffee.

Parking your car in the garage is €20 per day. Not unusual for hotels, but still expensive.

Inherent in the hotel design, and thus not fixable, is the rather unpractical room layout. The sink is right behind the headboard of the bed, and the shower and the toilet are in glass cabins in the middle of the room, with basically zero noise insulation. All this is no problem if you are alone in the room. But if you are traveling as a couple, you will wake your partner if you are on different morning schedules or if you go to the bathroom in the middle of the night.

Hotel open in april 2012. Very friendly service. Excellent design lay-out and furniture in the room, which differs from the traditional hotelrooms. Airco, and partly with a high ceiling (which gives the room a greater ambiance, air and light in summer time) with two high windows on the Kulturpalast. Breakfast included in price, very correct and abundant. In WE, service in breakfast not yet fully routined, but very friendly. I felt me at home.
