“Excellent Location Gourmet Breakfast”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 November 2013

We stayed at the Hotel Kipping for two nights. We found the owners to be helpful and the room very comfortable. We had no problem with internet access. The breakfasts truly were gourmet with stuffed tomatoes, a variety of deviled eggs, 3 different kinds of yogurt and muesli, a variety of breads, cherry kuchen and other baked delights.
Our only negative was that our room opened up over the rear entrance and people tended to smoke there. When our windows were open, the smoke came in. We felt safe walking at night nearby. Would not hesitate to stay again.

Recently spent two nights with the extremely proper brothers Kipping. Having lived in Germany for 5 years, they are certainly the quintessential "all business" German. I think I may have been offended by their abruptness and lack of a sense of humor had I not understood them . Hotel was in a great location for arrival and departure from Dresden and so easy to also use S bahn for coming and going from the old city when the "dogs were barking" and we didn't want to walk back. Breakfast was not included but reasonably priced and a very typical German breakfast at that. Room was clean, quiet and more than adequate and well priced.fortunately we did it need advice from the Kipping brothers as the time or two we sought advice, we felt like we were imposing on them.

We arrived by train and were happy to see that the Kipping was about a three-minute walk. The building is one of few that was spared during WWII bombings. Our room was plain but very comfortable. Breakfast was good. It's about a mile walk to the old part of town, through a pleasant shopping street.

We recently spent one night in Dresden at the Hotel Kipping. The hotel has a number of positives. 1) it's a short walk from the train station. We saw a number of tourists lugging baggage across Dresden. Not us. 3 minutes maximum. 2) It's very quiet. You would think that a hotel this close to the station would be noisy. It wasn't. It was as if we were the only guests.3) The breakfast is excellent. 4) Large rooms. 5) Very clean. 6) We arrived early in the morning and left late in the afternoon. No problem storing luggage. 7) It's close to a market.

Some of the reviews we read mentioned poor internet connection and implied that the neighborhood may not be that safe due to a casino a block away. I can't speak to the internet as we didn't use it. We were on holiday, not a business trip. As for the casino, it's a non-issue. The neighborhood is good and at no time did we feel unsafe.

We also read reviews regarding the owners being rude. We didn't experience this. What we did notice is that they are hard-workers and don't have much time to chat. But the are courteous and not rude.

Trust this will help!

The hotel is within a block of the train station (very accessible), and the surrounding neighborhood is pretty. The breakfast was good, and we had a tasty dinner. The room was large with very high ceilings; bathroom was nice too except remember to turn on the shower and sink water at the controls outside the shower near the toilet; the temperature fluctuated rapidly - the pipes were hot if accidently touched (beware as the sink faucet may shoot out water too if turned on too high). I felt as though I was on the set of a period piece as the doors led off a large central room, in addition to walking through very tall doors and using a giant key. I found the clock and hair dryer beneficial. I thought the bed and pillows were hard. Although the stairs were a very easy climb; they were also very dark, so I was concerned about tripping (if you have a flashlight, I'd suggest using it). I believe the entrance for check in was around the back from the street. I can't comment on the value as we were part of a group.

First let me say any wifi problems reported by other reviewers have been fixed. I'm sending this review from my room at the Hotel Kipping, and I've had excellent connection throughout my three night stay. The staff are excellent; any reviews citing unfriendliness overlook that we are in Germany, where efficiency and politeness are revered above coziness with strangers. The breakfast is fabulous, varied and homemade and the best buffet I've seen in years. Try the half board for dinner one night at least; it's fine and a good value, too. Thank you to the Kipping brothers.

The Kipping Hotel is a family-owned gem of a small hotel perfectly situated for sightseeing on foot and museum exploration in Dresden. The hotel is meticulously maintained, and has in-room unlimited Wi-Fi. The Kipping offers incomparable buffet breakfasts, with home-made delicacies and desserts, as well as 3 different egg preparations - scrambled, hard-boiled, and deliciously stuffed. The proprietors and staff are friendly and readily at your service.

The hotel serves dinners which are truly worthy of a gourmet, and at a reasonable price.

I wish I would have reason to visit Dresden again, just so I could stay at the Kipping!
