We really enjoyed our visit. We booked tickets well in advance through their website, and we're very glad as the tours were full on the day we visited. The staff were helpful, and the tour started promptly. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and willing to spend time answering lots of questions. It is a very impressive feat of engineering, and fascinating to watch the process of building cars. This is absolutely worth a visit, even for people who are not interested in cars. It is easy to get to by transit and located next to a large park to make a day trip.

We read that there was a brunch at Restaurant Lesage in the Volkswagen factory on Sundays and thought it would be a fun experience. We asked our server at one of it's sister restaurants Palais Bistro about it on Saturday night and he offered to make reservations for us for the brunch-which was so incredibly nice. The brunch came with a tour of the factory, but unfortunately on such short notice there was no English tour available for us...so we said we would take the German tour. We arrived at Lesage approximately 45 minutes earlier than our reservation and they graciously took us to our table early, but we had a tour reservation that started at a set time so we ate so fast to be ready for our tour...finally I asked if we could come back to our table after the tour to eat some dessert...and they said absolutely. Well unbeknownst to us, when you make a reservation for a table..it is yours for the entire time of the brunch hours.....I think it was 11-3....that would have been good to know. Anyway the brunch was very nice-I can't say that the food was "exceptional" it was good-but the experience was exceptional-the space is beautiful, the tour was fun-it would have obviously been more worthwhile in English and probably even more interesting during a work day-but it was definitely cool. The brunch was expensive but included the tour-I am not sure how much the tour alone costs....but I will say when people ask us what our favorite parts of our trip were...we say the Volkswagen brunch! Also there was a piano player who was amazing and really made the afternoon a real treat. I have been told that reservations are quite necessary-especially if you want the tour in a language other than German you must call a few days ahead of time. You don't need to eat there to take the tour...also there is a cafe in the front where you can have a snack or light meal...so there are food options that you are not necessarily obligated to experience with the tour....it is really just an interesting concept to eat in a car factory. The factory is beautiful in and of itself-quite amazing.

Extremely interesting car manufacturing facility, very different from standard car production line
We arrived at 15:00, since the shift ends at15:30 most of the tour was in non-working line
Still very recommended

If you are in Dresden and you want to see something different. This museum is a must.

First they assemble The Volkswagen Phaeton /ˈfeɪtən/ FAY-tən is a full-size (F-segment in Europe) luxury sedan/saloon manufactured by German automaker Volkswagen. If you take a tour during the day you can see the workers. If I was to do this tour again I would do this tour during working hours of the workers. The workers finish at 3pm take the tour at noon. The museum is a transparent museum which means you can see everything through the glass.

There are tours. Reservations are a must. Tours in English are at noon and 3pm daily. The cost is 7 Euros. The tour lasted about 1.25 hours. At the end you can sit in a couple of the cars. You are not allowed to take pictures.

This place was spotless. The tour is very informative.

It is off the beaten path. You can walk from the inner city about 20 - 25 minutes.

There is locker storage if you don't want to carry your belongings.

At one part of the building you can see the cars that are waiting to be picked from the owners.

The transparent factory is transparent is both the sense, the transparent building and the transparent production process. Here you get to see how the Volkswagen luxury sedan Phaeton is assembled. Its worth visiting. Photography is prohibited inside the building.
