“Very nice hotel in the middle of old city”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 June 2012 via mobile

This is a very nice hotel in a historic building in the center of the old part of the city with a friendly staff. Our rom was very large, clean, and quiet. It had a large desk with a comfortable chair (NOT typical is so many hotels).  The bed was very comfortable. The bathroom was very large with a soaking tub, vanity area with stool, separate toilet, and walk-in shower. The toiletries were nice and there was a hair dryer and magnified mirror. In the bedroom, there was a safe, kettle for hot water, coffee maker, robe, and slippers.

Breakfast was not included but a continental breakfast was available for 8 EUR. There were also coffee, tea, and pastries available to buy in the lobby bar.

Two negatives: the free wifi was terrible. They told my husband they were having router problems. They don't have a business center but they let him use their computer to check email. The other problem is the shower which is large and bright but it leaks water all over the bathroom floor because the shower floor and the bathroom floor are the same height.

Go to the Tourist Info center to get a map to follow the silver swishes in the sidewalk. Each point of interest has a blue sign with info in both German and English.

Also, there are cafes close that serve breakfast for about 6 EUR

I was in Leipzig for 3 days and my family and I stayed at Steigenberger hotel. Hotel has very kind staff with big smiles, rooms were very clean , breakfast was perfect. Location was also very good, very close to the main train station and in the heart of the historic city. Also good choice for the Bach Festival because the hotel is very close to churchs and Gewandhaus. I strongly recommend this hotel !

I stayed one night with a group in this hotel and frankly found the staff disinterested and too busy trying to look cool to help guests. They must have been trained in the military school of hospitality and could learn a lot from the staff at the Radisson Blu in Berlin about how to treat guests.

Position is good. Rooms a reasonable size with comfortable beds but tend to be a bit on the dark side. Bathroom fine with all amenities you would want.

Checkin was efficient and speedy but I felt they just wanted to get rid of me an onto the next person. The girl who checked me in was certainly not chatty and friendly.

There was an issue with my room and I asked if there was another I could possibly be moved to but was told 'no the hotel is full'. No sorry love to help you but .., just a big, curt, unfriendly no.

The bags came up to the room and I was told to take my bag off the trolley and take it to the room myself. Not a problem but most bell hops would at least take it off the trolley for you.

Breakfast was good. Great variety but again finding a staff member to order coffee from was a challenge. My friend had tea and they bought an egg timer with it so it drew the specified time. Really! Would have been cute if the service had been up to standard.

Be warned there are two steps from the checkin area up to the lift so you will have to lift you bags up those to get to the lift. On checking out I took my bags down myself and when I got to the lobby, although there were at least 3 staff members there no one helped me and I lifted my bags down the stairs. Again just disinterested and chatting.

The hotel is fine but if you are looking for some common courtesy and basic customer service go elsewhere.

this hotel has it all:
-very central position in old city center. All the sights and shops are within easy walking distance.
-beautiful rooms with all amenities you expect from a hotel.

But most imprtantly the people who work at the hotel are without exception helpful and very friendly.
We'd love to return to this hotel.

I have just returned from a four night stay in Leipzig, from the moment I arrived at the Steigenberger I was impressed (and I travel a great deal). The front reception staff are friendly and chatty and you feel straight away they will look after you and they do.
From an old building they have fashioned a state of the art hotel that is comfortable, quiet and just perfect. The rooms are large, comfortable and beautifully quiet and clean.
Great location close to the shops and all of the attractions in this lovely town which comes to life at night with busy bars and restaurants.

Our stay in this hotel was one of the most leasant experiences I can remember. Everything about it was perfect, from the very helpful staff to the beautifully decorated and extrememly comfortable rooms and the very generous and varied breakfasts. The hotel is perfectly situated on a square in the very centre of Leipzig but there doesn't seem to be any passing traffic and the rooms are very quiet. It is very near the main shopping street as well as many restaurants and cafés. I certainly hope to return.

Really nice hotel. All new. Friendly staff. Spacious rooms.
Excellent breakfast with great choice of high quality food. We also did the high tea ceremony. And it was fantastic. Superb choice of sandwiches and sweets.
We felt really comfortable at the Steigenberger.
Of course it lacks a bit of character since it's newly renovated.... But in that way it just is like the rest of Leipzig.
