Great little hotel. Close to Straßenbahn, good public transportation, but also within a longer walking distance of city center. Wonderful breakfast and friendly staff. I attended a conference in Leipzig and this hotel was booked for me. It was also a little more than a week after I got married so the trip was both business & honeymoon. Would recommend for either.

I'm writing this review from a top-floor room at the Markgraf, overlooking a lovely tree-filled square.

The hotel is super-clean, modern, efficient and great value. The room is easily nice enough to spend time in - airy, with an ample-sized desk, free wi-fi and minibar/fridge. The staff are super-helpful and positive.

The location is a quite side-street in Leipzig's cool and cultural south side of the city - which, if you're at all arty, musical, and/or into boho bars and clubs, is where you want to be. It's only a short hop by tram to the city centre anyway. Note that trams 10 and 11 go direct from the central train station to within 5 minutes walk to the hotel (alight at Sudplatz).

I couldn't recommend this place highly enough.

This is a very nice hotel, not big and feels cosy and friendly. Located just 2 tramway stops from Leipzig City centre it is also within easy walking distance (useful when public transport gets rare at night and you don't want to pay for the cab).
Breakfast buffet had a very good selection of dairies, cereals, different kinds of bread, hams and sausages, various types of cheese, eggs, pickles, even caviar, jams and pastries, teas. Not so many vegetables though... There were local newspapers available (I have not noticed international ones). There was a nice garden area, where I could have my breakfast al fresco.
My room was on the top floor, clean, with enough space to relax or work at the desk (with free wifi). The mini bar was re-filled every day with complimentary chocolate, water, juice and beer (I do not drink beer, so when the service people noticed I did not touch it, they put coca-cola instead).
It was incredibly hot in August, with exceptionally high 38-39 C outside, so I was missing air conditioning, or at least a fan (that the hotel unfortunately did not have as an option). Certainly I did not feel like using a sauna available free of charge! And having a kettle with a cup and some tea selection in the room would be great (one can buy tea at the reception, quite expensive, but when it closes for the night the only option would be nearby cafes and bars).
Overall I really like this hotel and it will be my first choice the next time, if I get the similar deal - I booked through their website directly and the breakfast was included in my price, although through other websites it was always quoted separately.

The rooms were much bigger than we expected and the free wireless internet was a great bonus. The hotel staff were very knowledgable and friendly and spoke English very well. The hotel was right in the middle of a lot of restaurants. There were beautiful views of the city from our room and it was close to the train station and easy to walk to most attractions. It was a great deal for the price.

We felt the Markgraf was very good value for money. It's in a quiet square in a part of town where many students seem to live. There are frequent trams which take you to the centre in 5min or so, or you could walk it in perhaps 20. The hotel has no restaurant, but there are some reasonable restaurants nearby though you have to go further for fine dining. The hotel was clean, our room was excellent (though not air conditioned), and the breakfast was very adequate. Parking is possible in a basement garage at extra cost, but the staff suggested we park for free in the square which we did with no problem, and they were very helpful with other advice too.

I felt the staff went out of their way to be helpful. I went to Leipzig for a conference, and in comparing hotel experiences with my co-participants, I found I had by far the best deal: quiet at night, friendly service, spacious and pleasant room, helpful staff. Apparently it's a family hotel, which would explain the affable service. This is on comparison with chain-hotels in that price range which seem to see every query you have as an opportunity to get more money off you (internet, ironing etc.).

Location-wise, it's just directly off Liebknecht street which had several interesting street cafes and shops. It took me 20 minutes every day to walk into the centre (the University street). I walked back in the middle of the night ,and local girls said it was a perfectly safe area to walk through at any time of night.

The only downside I can think of is that the lift was quite slow.
