I stayed here with a large group of collegues for 4 nights last weekend.

We got a taxi direct from the airport which took around 15 minutes and cost €25-€30. The lady at reception spoke very little English but was as polite and helpful as is possible with the language barrier.

First impression of my room (129 on the forth floor) was good. It was very clean, a decent size and adequately furnished. I would've liked a kettle but it didn't bother me too much. Bathroom was compact but clean and had no problems with things not working.

I was disappointed with the lack of Internet access and soon came to despise the mattresses as they are ridiculously soft... so much so that I contemplated sleeping on the floor!

Breakfast was adequate. Usual continental suspects available (cold meats, cheeses, bread, cereal) and is served 6am-10am daily. There is also a small bar that serves decent beer on tap.

I don't really know whether I'd recommended this place or not. I was attending a conference at Leipzig Zoo so it was convenient for me as it's situated about 1km away on the same street, with the city centre a further 1km down the road. I don't think hotel snobs will enjoy this place though as the service is quite old fashioned.

PROS: Clean, polite staff, decent sized room, decent location

CONS: No internet, terrible mattresses (my opinion), quite noisy at night because of trams/cars, old fashioned services

Tips - Get a taxi direct from airport for 25-30€ or get a train to the central station, followed by the no. 12 tram marked Gohlis Nord. It's about 5 stops and there is a stop directly outside the hotel.

If you plan on staying out past midnight then take your room key with you. Reception closes at midnight (although was actually still open way past that on the weekend) but you will be given an additional key to let yourself in through the back entrance.

We stayed here for two nights while visiting relatives who had recommended this hotel. I am not really sure whether they do not like us after suffering through the experience that this place offers!

First of all, it is located at a noisy street. The tram is running past the hotel, which is convenient for reaching the city. Still, this means that you can also hear every single train in your room.

Checking in was possible early during the day, which was nice. One room was not ready yet, while the other one was. We specifically asked for rooms facing away from the street, which was accommodated.

Now, while one room looked quite okay, the other one had a funny smell. There was even an ashtray present, which might explain this.

The beds looked clean, thank god, but were horribly soft. You literally get sucked into the mattress and sink in until there is no escaping. When complaining about this to the manager, we were offered a wooden plank to be placed in our bed - an offer which we gladly declined. Instead, we canceled the reservation for one of the rooms. The other room had beds that were a tad better, although there was another nasty surprise: we had asked for an extra bed, which was provided. Now, this "bed" did nothing to deserve its name - it literally consisted of a field cot covered with something that is meant to look like a mattress, but is only a mattress shaped heap of bedsprings! My sister offered to sleep on it if somebody paid her 20 Euros. Instead, we converted the couch to a makeshift bed.

Overall, this hotel is very rundown looking, the carpets are stained and loose, there are strange smells all over the house and staff smoke below the rooms windows.

This is not a hotel I can recommend. Save yourself some money and check into a nicer hotel!

We traveled from the US to Germany the end of April and stayed at the Hotel de Saxe in Leipzig. We did not speak German and the staff was so accommodating to us. I would recommend staying at this hotel. The restaurant had good food and the rooms are very clean. I would stay at this hotel again if I ever have another chance to visit this beautiful area of Germany.
