“You couldn't ask for better”
Reviewed 4 March 2014

This is a superb hotel. Just across from the Thomaskirche and next door to the Bach museum, this is about as well-placed a hotel as you could wish for. The centre of town is a stone's throw and the nearest rail station is 3 minutes. 15 minutes from the main station, 10 from the opera house.

The room I stayed in had TV, bluray/dvd player, ipod dock, hot plates, microwave and fridge (although strangely no kettle). Receptionists very helpful and friendly, and for the quality of the hotel, the price is reasonable. Recommended.

Room Tip: Choose one facing front, for a view of the Bach statue and Thomaskirche.

The hotel is opposite St Thomas's church, on a cobbled street just off the main square of the city. Booking in is a breeze and we were welcomed with a smile and enthusiasm. We arrived at around 1300 by car. You can get a car down there, but best to park at the Markt underground car park and walk. Its a short walk from there to the hotel.
The interior of the lobby is modern and airy and the hotel itself is located behind a restaurant. The room we booked was called 'comfort' and it was. Two rooms, a kitchenette and a bathroom with a walk in shower and a swimming pool for a bath.
The first room had a sofa, and this was converted to a bed for one of our kids, they provided a cot for the littlest one and left child friendly body and hair gel as well (a very nice touch), we all had gummi sweets on our pillows instead of chocolates, but they disappeared quickly when my daughter spotted them.
The rooms were bright (floor to ceiling windows along one side of the rooms), with air con, tvs (one in each room) and electric blinds and normal curtains to try to get the kids to sleep in.
The kitchenette was great, we used it to prepare coffee and heat some quick snacks up.
The location is fantastic, its slightly off the beaten track to serve as a quiet area for sleeping and recharging batteries but you can get to the main part of the city in less than 5 minutes.
The pros were that it was very friendly, the whole lot, the hotel was 'friendly' and so were the staff. It felt like you were borrowing a friends apartment for the weekend and didn't at all feel manufactured cookie cut type hotel which I am used to.
Free wifi, with throttled bandwidth (which makes sense), and to be honest we only used it to quickly check emails since we were out and about.
The cons, well it seemed a bit too much like the business persons hotel, well the high flying type business person I mean. We have two young children and other guests who were booking in regarded them like aliens from another planet.

Very well located, the hotel mix the old front view with modern rooms very good WiFi range you will not be without signal.
There is also a restaurant which you will be very well served not just on breakfast but as well if you decide not to discover the city.

Nice modern hotel, in the center of Leipzig. It has all what you need and it is rather new. Small gym but it does the job. Breakfast was fine with ample of choice and good quality. Wifi works but has limited capacity but is for free. Room rate was friendly.

I booked the hotel via their webside. Standard booking procedure, no problems at all.

Location: In the center of Leipzig, directly at the Thomas Church.

Checkin: Friendly people, efficient, all fine

Room: Nice room. It is a new hotel, so all is in a perfect condition.
Even the hotel is in the center, it is very quiet. I had a good sleep, all fine.

Breakfast: Nice restaurant, nice team, huge selection of food.

Dinner: Same restaurant as for breakfast. Food is ok, nothing extraordinary. BUT: A fantastic wine list, very fair pricing. Waiters/waitress told me the story around each wine. I loved it.
So: Go there for wine tasting AND drinking....

Gym/sauna: Yes, it is exist. But it is small. So: If you want to run, then go outside to one of the parks.

Overall: Very good value, it is one of the favorite hotels in Leipzig, if you want good quality for a fair price.

I stayed two nights at Bach 14 during a short visit to Leipzig. The hotel is conveniently located just opposite the Thomas Kirche most famous as being the place of where J.S. Bach spent a long time as cantor (his statue is just in front of the hotel). The city center can be easily explored on foot, and other museums and shopping as well as the Zoo are well reachable with public transport.
I had booked a Motette room with a living area and kitchenette, no minibar. The room is located on the ground floor to the back side with a small patio style terrace. It’s a pity that there is no chair and table outside even though there is space to put something small. The room features an espresso machine, but not even one capsule was offered upon check-in. You can buy them from reception though. What is missing is a water kettle along with some tea bags, instant coffee and sugar portions. Even in simple guesthouses in Africa or Asia this is offered complimentary.
Unfortunately, the room was not ready when I arrived around 1:30 pm, so I had to re-arrange my in the lobby and adjust my plans. Seems, they have only limited staff as some other travellers faced the same issue with check-in being only possible in the afternoon.
The bathroom has a walk in shower only. Oddly, hand soap (large refillable dispenser) is provided at the sink, and a shampoo dispenser in the shower but no shower gel. Bathrobe is available but slipper are not. The magnifying mirror is illuminated; however the ceiling spot lights are placed too much in the middle of the room so that it’s quite dark when look into the regular mirror.
I did not use the A/C or internet in the room. But the complimentary WIFI works well in the restaurant even on its terrace.
The hotel is in easy reach from the main train station which took about 15 minutes (ca. 20 Euros) with the taxi. You can also take the tram which is only a few stops and the stop is within 5 minutes walking distance from the hotel.
The one best thing about this hotel is the Restaurant “Weinwirtschaft”. Breakfast is nice, but it’s the lunch / dinner time which make a huge difference. The menu has a good selection, the wine list is fantastic and especially nice is that nearly all wines are available by glass. I did not even consider of eating elsewhere, it was very tasty and prices are not the cheapest, but acceptable considering the quality, taste and service. The place can get busy as it seems also popular with the local residents.
The only issue I encountered and which must be addressed is that I had asked for an anti-allergy blanket which I used in the second night and in the morning, the inside of one of my arms was covered with itching blisters. So there seems to be a slight bed bug issue and some pest control is needed.
Overall conclusion: recommendable, but be aware of bed bugs.

Extremely disappointing!
We arrived 14:00 on an August Sunday afternoon after a four hour trip to Leipzig and a walk through town from the train station. We were promptly told that check-in was 15:00 and we needed to wait the additional hour as our particular room was not yet finished. As my fiance is SEVEN MONTHS PREGNANT we asked whether any other rooms were available as she really needed to put her feet up and relax a bit. We were told that, although the hotel was not fully booked, we did not reserve a category of room that would allow us to be put into any of the rooms that were currently standing empty! While we understand that sometimes concessions can not be made, in this case we were dealing with a hot, summer Sunday afternoon in a non-sold-out situation AND a pregnant woman ... and we were basically told to hit the streets for another hour.

The staff could have really been our heroes ... instead they earned only zeroes.

And, for those of you curious as to where they were so intent at putting their newest guests, here's the trash/grafitti-filled view from our room.

There are MANY better options in Leipzig and, to think, we could have been in the Steigenberger for just another €20!

Room Tip: Preferably not one overlooking the messy, loud, grafitti-filled courtyard.
