“Not bad”
Reviewed 29 September 2013

As other reviewers wrote, there is quite a bit of construction going on at this hotel, which is supposed to last for another year. Thus it's not as nice as it could be with a few inconveniences created by it, but still an ok place to stay.

The hotel is located at the river Elbe across the old town, which is a 10 min walk. Nice and quiet, and probably with a nice view of river and castle if you have a room on a higher floor.

The rooms are basic, but clean and with everything you need. Free Wifi (max 250 MB), reasonably fast. Decent service, good breakfast, and moderate room rates.

All in all not a special hotel, but not bad and definitely nicer once construction is completed.

The hotel was lovely, rooms were spacious and wifi was available. A quick walk to town. We arrived right after the flooding and saw alot of the damage, and folks all working together to get things back in order. Breakfast was a buffet. Large group of travelers was also there, so a bit noisy at meal time, but good service in spite of the number of people. No A/C, glad it was not too hot, we could leave windows open for evening breezes.

I loved this place, the history of it, the facade (Meissen porcelain) the cleanliness, the view, the breakfast, the evening meal, everything.
If you are ever in Meissen stay here. It's only a five minute walk to town but better than staying in the town because you get to see the castle/cathedral out of your window. :-)

If you like a hotel which primary purpose is accommodating groups of (elderly) people, groups on training sessions you are in the right place. It is a place of missed chances: the location is lovely, on the banks of the river Elbe with a view to the ancient town of Meissen, the main building is attractive on the outside, but the hotel manages to spoil it by offering boring rooms in a depressing annex, poor bathroom facilities, an uninteresting menu. Staying there in June on a warm night, we were instructed to keep the windows closed to keep the mosquitos out (no mosquito gauze).
Positive feature the 'biergarten' nice terrace near the river , and the breakfast.
Not worth the money, the hotel is part of a chain of business type hotels, they should have left this location well alone, it deserves better.

We stayed at the Meissen Mercure in Sep. 2006 and had the most incredible room ever. The hotel is situated on the Elbe river and our corner room #15 had French doors/windows on two sides that overlooked the river. The view from the bed was of the Meissen palace and cathedral (see pic.). The room was perfect with white starched linen and down blankets. Hotel staff were nice and friendly.
The breakfast served in a sun room overlooking the Elbe is sumptuous and varied and contains every possible breakfast item. Some tables in the garden just above the river bank and access to the river. The hotel has a parking lot on the premises
