“Open for guided tours”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 August 2014

The church is currently being renovated. It is however possible to see interior of the church as there are guided tours 2-3 times every day. An alternative is to go there Sunday morning for worship. We did so which provided plenty of time to see the church.

“Still worth a visit”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 July 2014

The other reviewers are right about the 2 main churches being basically closed (renovations for 2017 celebrations). The Town Church is entirely closed. The Castle Church gives some access in its tours in German. Today, Saturday, there was a service at 5:00 in English in part of the Castle Church, right next to Luther's tomb. We took a 2:00 English tour (the office is across the street from the church). 2 hours long with a very well informed guide. wittenbergenglishministry.com has info on this. For us, it was either now or never, so it was very much worth the trip.

“Closed for Renovation”

If you are thinking of going to Wittenberg because you want to see the Luther sights - don't bother! BOTH major churches were closed for renovation, preparing for the 500 anniversary in 2015.

Should have done more research before coming here. Church is under construction outside and inside. You cannot get in. Preparing for 2017 celebrations.

“Renovations taking place”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 June 2014

In all fairness, many places were covered in scaffolding as they are preparing for the 500th anniversary of the Reformation in 2017 so there wasn't much to see. In fact, we couldn't even enter the church but look at it through a construction fence. Bummer!
