There is one cafe in the main square by the Rathaus and another above the shop in the main shopping street behind it. The shop is amazing, even if you don't like marzipan.

We´ve visited this cafe couple of times and every time we had to wait for order so long (we´ve been served by different waitresses). Staff is very impersonal and looks so annoyed by taking orders. Cakes are amazing (the best one is simple "Nuss-Sahne Torte"), but I rather stay in another cafe in Lübeck where is not maybe so wide range of cakes but staff is friendlier. And closing time at 6PM on Saturday...why?

If you travel to Luebeck, this is one of the "must sees", as they offer an array of cakes and pastries, the likes of which you may never view again. There is a shop on the ground floor, filled to the brim with all sorts or marzipan, a most delicious almond paste, and souvenirs. The second floor is home to the café, as coffee and cake are after all a daily requirement. Service is impeccable and anything you may choose to eat or drink will surely thrill your sweet tooth... The third floor houses a new marzipan museum with live marzipan molding and decorating demonstrations by artisans. Very interesting.
Note the company also operates a street café across the way, in the ground floor of city hall (one of the Luebeck's most beautiful buildings), so you could sit stylishly upstairs, or right in the hustle and bustle of the city, either way, you can't go wrong.

In the middle of the pedenstrian area across from the
town hall and historic buildings lies the Niederegger cafe.

At the street level you will find a large store for
Marzipan in al variations imaginable, but the real "gem"
is hidden on the first floor.

Here you find the cafe with a LARGE selection of cakes
and a menu of beverages. If cakes strike you as being
too rich you can also opt for the icecream selections.

We had the chocolate and the rasberrry torts with
whipped cream ("Slagzahne") and cafe latte.

The service was fast and friendly and the crowd large.
Our cakes were indeed rich but then again if you do not
eat that sort of food every day I'm sure it will be allright.

Treat your self to really fun experience and eat your
way through the sweet cuisine at cafe Niederegger. It's
fun and surely different from anyting you will find at
homw (We're from Denmark).

The Café Niederegger offers a great variety of cakes/pies (Torten), including the Marzipan Torte, which is the trademark of the Niederegger marzipan factory. Not only can you enjoy a cup of coffee with a tasty piece of pie, but you can also buy everything with marzipan which is also sold at the café. You can also have a meal in the upstairs room. The café is always busy with tourists and locals. Try also the ice cream that is sold at the door of the café in the warmer months.
