It's a nice 4 star hotel in an overall quiet location near the town center. On my arrival in the middle of the night on a quite tiring business trip, I was warmly - and very efficiently - welcomed at the reception desk. The rooms are not very spacious, but quite comfortably designed and well equipped, with a good working area with all connectors. I had a quiet room on the first floor, despite the orientation to the front of the hotel. A high-speed wifi is free of charge. The bathroom is also well equipped. Everything was very clean and well kept. The personnel were very nice and always helpful. Room service works nicely all over the night.

The hotel has a separate underground parking, which was free of charge. Furthermore, I appreciated a lot a very late check-out until 5 pm without any problems or additional charge. The mini bar in the room was well stuffed and reasonably priced.

Since the elegant main restaurant was fully booked for some events, I had lunch in the brasserie-style “Kogge” (the name of an ancient type of merchant vessels): Very warm welcome, excellent service and great food at a decent price ! I had a local “Sülze”, some sort of a pork brawn, and an ultra-fresh plaice with an - unusual, but very nice - mix of mushrooms and shrimps. Both dishes came in generous quantities and were really delicious. The bill of 38 EUR, including water and coffee, was quite moderate.

Overall: Despite heavy work load and quite straining travel conditions, I had a very nice stay, spent a great day and will certainly come back.

The hotel is nice, rooms are clean and comfy, breakfast is quite extensive and fully available until 10:30. It's only a 5 min walk to the old town. Staff very friendly as well. Dit not try the restaurant.

The building has an austere look but internally is an extremely nice hotel. Large traditional conference type venue , good rooms ,facilities and restaurants . Located on the banks of the river overlooking the town of Lubeck . Easy walk to the centre .

Room Tip: All rooms are equal

This hotel most likely reached its peak some years ago. Now it is a pretty unpersonal hotel with the sole purpose of giving you a place to sleep.
The room was fresh, but not super fresh and the broadloom felt a bit so-so.
The bed was comfortable enough. The hotel is located very close to the city center of Lübeck.

Good:
- location is great, easy parking and within walking distance to everything Lubeck has to offer
- the swimming pool and sauna area nice extra, definitely great to relax when on the road
- the staff tries hard and is friendly
- beds and pillows are comfy
- great views from the rooms (well we had water view)
- ok for 1 or 2 nights
- very easy check in and check out

Bad:
- rooms need updating, especially the bathrooms
- very low ceilings, makes it a somewhat claustrophobic atmosphere
- parking costs extra and lot in front of the hotel was full both days we were there, had to walk a little bit to a larger parking area across the street (not bad)
- had to pay for 2 rooms because of our 6 year old, he doesn't sleep with us in the bed any more and the hotel can't provide pullouts...so we ended up getting charged double for an adjacent extra room...we understand but it's not worth €390 for 1 night!
- food at the restaurant was very mediocre albeit quite affordable

I think one of the measures of a five star hotel is that it has a porter/concierge, and we were disappointed to find this was not the case, and on arrival on a very hot day my husband had to struggle alone with a luggage trolley.
In addition we, emailed the hotel two months in advance from England to ask for a view of the old town and for two interconnecting rooms. The reply was ambiguous, our interconnecting rooms had been reserved, but not the old town view. We were told that a view of the river and old town is NEVER guaranteed, but merely 'noted', so remember this if that is important to you.
We were allocated rooms over looking the car park and we were told that there was no chance of old town view rooms. However, on mentioning my husband's Radisson Gold card hey presto, two rooms with a view were found! And what a view it is, the beautiful Trave river immediately outside the window and the spires of the town on the other side.
We would like especially to thank Kristin on reception, a young lady who has the ability to go far in the hospitality industry and who worked very hard to make us happy.
The other good things about this hotel are that it has free wi-fi,a big plus, a reasonably priced underground garage at €13 a night, comfortable beds, comfortable squashy sofas in the airy reception area, and the rate we paid of €182 per room per night in high season was reasonable.
Our rooms were clean and a pretty pale green colour scheme. The bathroom was white tiled and rather basic with a shower over the bath, and a hair dryer of only 850w.
The tv was 16 inches approx, quite small really.
Our biggest issue was with the Food and beverage manager (if there was one, we never saw him/her) On our first evening the bar service was extremely slow, as only one poor very hot man was trying to sort out drinks for those inside and out, whilst spare staff lingered in the restaurant.
We ate in the restaurant on both evenings of our stay. The food is really good, but whilst the service on the first night was slow, the second evening it was so slow that the meal was comped. Whilst this was much appreciated, we would of course have rather paid for a pleasant evening. We weren't in a hurry, but three hours to serve three courses is too much.
Our biggest criticism was the breakfast service. It is a zoo. There is no-one to greet you or seat you, so you wander in and try to find a table, which are set so close together that some are inaccessible, making the problem worse. There were two waitresses who tried in vain to cope in a rather amateurish way, for example leaning right into my husband's face to reach across the table to clear plates and complaining when someone new appeared in one of their areas. They brought cappuccinos quickly and pleasantly though, and the food was fine. The Breakfast service needs a speedy rethink and management and supervision if this is to be considered a five star establishment.
We cut short our visit and went back to the Hyatt in Hamburg!
Two tips: If you are going to Niederegger, the restaurant upstairs is quieter in the mornings, and secondly, we had a great lunch upstairs in the restaurant of Kaufhof.

The location of this hotel is excellent. It is situated on the Trave River, facing the old town. The hotel is large and modern, with an extensive open lobby and nice views over the water. The three wings of the hotel allow many of the rooms to have a water view. Our "Comfort room" (standardroom) was bright, with view över Trave and very clean. The bathroom with tub/shower (not 5 star hotel standard). The rooms have safe (laptop-sized), mini-bar, bathrobes, room service, Niederegger marzipan, and AC (perfect when 31*C outside...). An ice machine down the corridor

The hotel has two restaurants and an "Wunderbar" with a very nice and effective bartender!. Deckchairs with view over the water where you can have your beer/drink. The breakfast served in the morning is truly wonderful. You name it, it's there.
There is a small pool and sauna inside. Free wireless internet which worked perfect. Parking outside or under the hotel costs extra.
The staff is professional and informed. I will be back!
