“Never again!!!”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 August 2014

This hotel can't be called a hotel but better a hostal. For the price of 83 euro per night, we had a terrible 3-day experience.
First of all, the room we booked was a spacious one, it was spacious but really old-fashioned and stinking. The first awful thing is the door key, you have to try hard in order to close your door (and once you've done it you don't feel safe!!). The key door can open also the second entrance door (because the hotel reception closes at 10 pm), so I don't quite understand if my key door could open all the doors and felt afraid that anyone could enter the hotel (the only good thing is that there is a police station near). Bed= unconfortable, wifi=terrible ans slow, bathroom= embarassing too little, with a noisy fan strating working whenever you put the light on, seemed all fashioned and not clean enough. Impossible to sleep, too thin walls and every noise from the room or from the street coming in not letting you sleep (on Friday music from the nearby bar until 1 am). Reception= a very rude guy at night and in general not helpful at all. TV= only German. Minibar= not present. Window curtains= too thin, you could see the light coming in at 5/6 am. Lift= unsafe. Only 2 good things= breakfast and position. This is not an hotel, I felt really depressed when coming into this room and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. Better go at the hotel in front next time.

Room Tip: I would recommend you choose another hotel but if you really want, avoid 1st floor.

We spent 4 nights here and agree with what the positive reviews say. The hotel is in a very convenient place: very close to the station (we came and left by train) but also close to the town centre. On the last morning it was convenient to check out but leave our luggage in the hotel while we made a last visit to the centre before catching the train. The breakfast was very good indeed. The room was small but clean. The shower worked well in a straightforward way (some showers in more modern hotels are too complicated!). We often find beds in inexpensive hotels rather hard and the duvets thin but here they were fine ensuring a good night's sleep.

Pros: We had a short stay in the hotel. The location is perfect if you want to be near the Gare and the bus station: the bus station was under our window, but the isolation is absolutely unbeatable. We had a little room with wardrobe, was really little one but sufficient for a short stay. The breakfast was excellent: many salted options (eggs, cheese, salami, ham), fruits, jams, yogurt, muesli. Well, for guest who like sweet breakfast there aren't many options, just one or two cakes. We made an early check-in free of charge. Free Wi-Fi in the room. Clean. Good quality of towels in bathroom, there is a hair dryer.
Cons: It was cold in the room. In the night it was OK, due to the warm blanket, but going to the bathroom was uncomfortable. Only German TV channels. No fridge in room.

Hotel looked bit worn-out. Close to train station and not far from city center. Room was small, a bit spartan and old fashioned, it was clean. Toilet/shower was very small. Ok breakfast. Good for few days stay

In January 2014, I stayed at Hotel Stadt Lübeck for one night with two friends.

Our room (38 – triple room) was spacious but the design was rather spartan/outdated. The bathroom was quite small but there was a modern shower which was a plus. Both the room and bathroom were clean. The only negative thing about the room was the fact that there was cold air coming through the window and that the heating wouldn’t manage to warm up the room with its rather high ceiling.

The hotel is located next to Lübeck’s train station. Our room was located on the third floor and it was quiet. From the hotel, it’s a 10-15 minutes’ walk to the city center. A big parking area is located right next to the hotel (4 Euro/24 hours).

A free breakfast was included in the price and the selection was good for a 2-stars-hotel.

The staff was very friendly and helpful. One of my friends forgot her mobile phone at the hotel and it was sent to her in no time.

We paid 79 Euro including breakfast for a triple room. Considering this price, I choose to give the hotel 3/5 stars (probably more a 3.5/5 actually...).

3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 December 2013 via mobile

We booked a small room for €66 on the second floor through booking.the room was quiet but really small.the bathroom even smaller.what I found really disappointing is that there is no heating in the bathroom,so the only way to be warm is to put on number 5 the heating in the room at the entrance but means you sleep with 22 degrees and we couldn't.in the evening after a day spent in the cold in the city we called the reception because the shower was not pulling warm water.the answer we got is that we had to wait because it needs a bit.after 10 minutes we decided to take our shower in the morning.we slept well because the room was quiet and the beds soft and comfortable.in the morning the breakfast was simply perfect:different kinds of bread like home made, fresh tasting fruits, jams, cheese, ham, boiled eggs, cereals,a tipical German breakfast but of an extreme good quality.back in the room I tried again to take a shower:a part of the small amount of water there was no way to balance the cold water with the hot.it burned or chilled you. It's annoying a lot in winter.it took me 20 minutes to wash myself and my hair with a lot of waist of water and jumping from boiling to freezing water .i explained that at the reception but :first they just did't say sorry as I would have done.second it was really clear the lady didn't care about.repairing the shower costs around €300 and for this reason and the totally coldness of the receptionist I give the hotel only 3 stars, considering that we paid €70(€4for the parking place)and across the road (won't say the name)you can sleep in a beautiful room with a big warm bathroom for€89,including a really good breakfast and the garage .sorry but I understand the hotel is old and charming but that doesn't mean I have to freeze or I can't properly take a shower.my feedback is just for the room we got.take your chance anyway , in summer is surely better.

3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 September 2013

On the whole, this is a pleasant hotel in a very convenient location. It is across the street from the train station and a nice walk to the Holstentor, leading into the old town. The rooms are small but clean. The breakfast was very good, with many choices. The room with breakfast for two was 78.00 euros per night. The only problem we had with the hotel was that our room was on the side of the hotel across from the train station (Room 10) and just down the block from a bar. On the Friday and Saturday nights we were there, the bar patrons stayed up late partying and playing very loud music until 3:00 AM. Sleep was difficult. We were not able to change our room until Sunday night when a room became available on the side which faces the bus station (Room 13). There was no problem with noise there.

Room Tip: Avoid Room 10 in the summer weekends.
