“Great hotel, quiet location”
Reviewed 22 June 2013

I stayed here for two nights whilst recovering from a flight from Australia.
The hotel is very clean and comfortable, with an exceptional breakfast selection!
The location is just out of town, but it makes an excellent base to walk up to Wartburg.
The staff were very friendly and worked with my very limited German vocabulary.
A very pleasant stay!

This is a lovely hotel with friendly and helpful staff, clean hotel with good facilities. Good German style breakfast. Our room had a nice balcony overlooking the hotel terrace and pond. It was a quick walk to the centre of the town and on the right side of the town for the Wartburg castle and a beatiful woodland area good for country walks. Check out the Drachenschlucht "the dragons gorge" if you're visit the forest.

We have stayed at both the Hotel Villa Anna and the Hotel auf der Wartburg. The Wartburg hotel has a few small advantages: the view, the elevator and the welcoming drink. The Villa is actually the older of the two and has the major advantage of price. Both have outstanding staffs (advantage Villa); both have well appointed rooms; both offer outstanding breakfasts; each has a wonderful but different view (Advantage Wartburg). The Villa is a beautiful Jugendstil building, constructed in 1907, renovated some 20 years ago and sits atop a hill surrounded by many other Jugenstil buildings. We loved both hotels, but on future visits we will again choose the Villa Anna. I have stayed at over a thousand hotels and can remember few that had a staff where everyone was this friendly, helpful and gracious. On our arrival, I was sure I was dealing with the owner; she took such great pride in the place and went out of her way to make us at home. At breakfast the next morning, I suspected that another staff member might be the owner. No, again! Having such a professional and happy staff speaks well of the hiring and retention practices. Our only complaint was about the lack of a lift. It is two flights of steps to the front door and another two to our room – although the ladies were very kind in offering to carry our bags. There is a half-height lift for laundry baskets. It can be put to use in cases where baggage is just too heavy. The walk into town is easy. There is a problem with any hotel high on a hill in Eisenach. Parking is scarce. You will either have to take your car and give up your parking place, or walk back up that hill. It seems like there is but one taxicab in the city. A call to the dispatcher asking for a taxi got a terse reply of, “I don’t have one now.”
If you feel you missed the view from the Hotel auf der Wartberg, then have lunch at their restaurant. The view is great – and the food is good too. For what you have saved on the room rate at the Villa Anna, you can eat and have money left.

Room Tip: We had Second floor front corner, and it had a good view. First floor corner might be good too.

We stayed here with our 13 year old nephew. The room we were given was on the base level and was a great size. It was very spacious with a very comfortable extra bed. There was a rotating flat screen tv, a large working desk, a lovely little green balcony with wicker seating, a decent sized almairah, a big bathroom with separate shower and tub..all in all - a very comfortable, warm room with tons of natural light.

Breakfast - a very good, tasty, healthy breakfast in a nice, bright, naturally lit room.

Staff - amazingly helpful. They helped us with everything from bike rentals to translations to special requests. Went out of their way to fix things up for us in their personal time from their home. Absolutely amazing.

Location - its up on the hill in a quiet, pretty neighborhood overlooking the whole town. It's a fairly good walk to the center, abt 30 minute hike up to the castle. If you have a car or bikes, this is just wonderful.

This is the place to stay in Eisenach. No question.

Hotel Villa Anna is a very good value for the money. We came to this area due to an interest in Martin Luther. This puts you close to some important Luther sites. The hotel is uphill from the town so you can get a nice territorial view of the valley (we did). It's also in a fairly quiet neighborhood. I'm a huge fan of clean and quiet. The hotel itself is a flight of stairs up from the street and then our room was 2 more flights of stairs up from there. If you are not in good shape, this might not be the place for you. Otherwise, this is fine. The room was a nice size with high ceilings, very clean, and had a TV, armoire, desk, and a sturdy luggage stand. It is very easy to get comfortable in the room and the desk is a great work space. Our room had a lot of natural light and you can open the windows and poke your head our to get an even better view or to get a lot of fresh air. The bathroom was fairly roomy. The shower (there's no bathtub) was a little small but even though I'm tall, it was still OK for me. This is a very nice, clean place to stay in a good location for a reasonable price. There's no pool or gym. It's not a luxury hotel but it was what we were looking for.

The breakfast we had, which was included, was a very generous spread of food and drink that was all very tasty. The breakfast room was especially pleasant. It is light and airy and really got me in a good mood to start my day.

We had limited interaction with the staff. This was fine as it meant that asking of the staff wasn't really necessary. But, when we did talk to the staff, they were friendly and helpful. I would recommend this hotel without reservation.

Room Tip: Get in as high a floor as you can for a better view.

We found the hotel to be very clean, very updated with amenities I did not expect to find - slippers, bathrobes, Nespresso coffee maker, large bathroom with lots of counter space, to name a few. Unlike others, we had no problem with internet access. We had a wonderful suite (room 34) - high ceilings, lots of natural light, large work desk, sitting area - with access to the outdoor courtyard adjacent to the dining room. The breakfast buffet was very nicely presented with a good variety. Although there is no dinner service at the dining room, there is a very nice menu of light snacks (a couple of sandwich choices, etc) that the staff will deliver to your room. One of our party tried the tomato soup and fried egg/ham sandwich and was very pleased with her choice. Best of all was the outstanding service - Ines greeted us upon check-in with a smile and a helping hand with luggage. With our limited ability to speak German, her fluency in English was extremely helpful. After settling in, we enjoyed a nice bottle of wine on the little patio at the front of the hotel and listened to the quiet!! Eisenach is a lovely town with lots of restaurants and shops as well as the good proximity to Wartburg Castle. There is a fairly steep set of stairs from the street to the front entrance, which would be a drawback for some with physical limitations. We will most definitely stay here next time we are in the area.

We are so glad we stayed at the Hotel Villa Anna while in Eisenach. The service was outstanding, very friendly and welcoming, the rooms large and generous, and the breakfast absolutely amazing! It is a good value for the price. Also, it's close enough to the old town that you can just walk there leisurely in 20 minutes or so. The surrounding is beautiful and it is very quiet there and it's wonderful to wake up to the birds twittering in the surrounding trees.
Would recommend this beautiful boutique hotel without hesitation!
