We were really looking forward to our lunch at Mathilda's, as the menu looked very tasty and creative and we liked other TA reviews. We arrived at 2pm and found that the waitresses were ignoring arriving customers, so other people cut in front of us to rush to a free table they liked better than the first one they'd bagged. I was tempted to leave and should have followed my instinct, because:
•Service continued to be slow, vague and unhelpful.
•We had to wait for 45 minutes, well after the lunch rush, for a portion of pasta and a pizza - no special requests, nothing off menu. During the time we were waiting, staff continued to ignore us: no updates, no checking whether we wanted moredrinks (we did), and when we called one waitress over to rectify the problem, she said she'd be right back and didn't follow up.
•The fettuccine were poorly made (too much water in the dough) and so overcooked they were falling to pieces, and the sauce was far, far too salty (I enjoy well-seasoned food, so I'm complaining with good reason). Annoyingly, the "regular" portion was in fact a starter size. A €15 starter in a casual cafe', in an inexpensive provincial town, ought to impress.
• The "pizza" was made on a flammkuechen base, it's like chalk and cheese. While the flavours were pleasant enough, it was skimpily topped and not what we ordered.
•The issues we raised were neither addressed nor solved by staff and nothing was taken off the bill for their blunders.
•When we were there, none of the arriving/departing patrons got a reply to their greetings from staff and were largely ignored, too - so we weren't singled out.
They wasted our time, and it is not theirs to waste. Ditto with our money. Und tschuess!
