The best part of our stay at Augustinerkloster was the location and our breakfast server! Erfurt is a beautiful town! We took a three-hour walking tour and learned so much about the city's rich history. Our breakfast server was bright and cheerful, and we could hear her singing along to 80s tunes when she went back into the kitchen each morning. The breakfast room was quaint and cozy, and the breakfast options very tasty.

Our room was in the Nikoli house (a guest house down the street from the monastery), and it overlooked the river. However, the beds were uncomfortable, and there were multiple spider webs, cobwebs, and dead bugs in the corners of the room and hanging from the ceiling. I would have preferred to stay in a room at the actual monastery, rather than in the guest house. While the service was great, our accommodations felt like an afterthought, and left me wondering if they'd forgotten we were coming.

The Augustinian monastery was the reason for my visit to Erfurt, so I was delighted that I could sleep there. Rooms are very simple, but offer a good night of sleep. No internet in rooms, but the breakfast was very good. Also, they have an exposition on Luther that is included in the stay. The church itself is a must see, with its historic high windows which arguably inspired Luther's Rose (the windows are currently being restored, so all you see is a printed fabric replica covering the glass. It is close to all the Reformation sites - university of Erfurt, the Georgenburse, etc. It is quite a long walk from the train station, but still THE place to stay if you are interested in the History of the Reformation.

Our Lutheran Tour Group stayed one night at this historic facility on August 14, 2007. We had an evening meal and breakfast there and both were very good. The Tour Guide asked us not to take all our luggage as the rooms might be small so we left our large luggage on the bus. We had a sleeping room, a 2nd room between that held a desk and a suitcase rack and an adequate bathroom with a shower. It was very plain, but new and very comfortable. No air conditioning, but slept fine in twin beds in August with the window open. Coming from the USA (Midwest) we were surprised to not see screens on the windows, but saw very few flies or mosquitoes in Germany.

Had some wonderful apple kuchen in the gift shop that the Lutheran Nuns run. We also attended their service of music in the morning at 7 a.m.

The only negative was the fact that we were not furnished soap in the bathroom, but were able to purchase bath gel at the front desk for 1 Euro. Guess that it might be a good idea to always include soap in my costmetic bag.

The Augustinerkloster in Erfurt is the place where Martin Luther studied prior to his battle with the catholic church.

The Augustinerkloster still works as a monestary so a few house rules are given to you upon arrival.

The rooms are simple but excellent and the breakfast if OK. Even if you order a room for 2 persons be prepared that you will get 2 single beds with a crucifix between the beds.

If you're into theology or history in general, do not miss this opportunity while staying in Erfurt.
