We could not get into the Schlossmuseum for the same reason we couldn't get into the Herzogin Anna Amalia Bibliothek when in Weimar last July. They had something against my purse. And inside my purse was all my money for the trip --- in cash. I wasn't going to be parted from my purse night or day. So all we got to do was sign the guest registry, visit the gift shop, and take photos of the courtyard. "The courtyard?" you say. Yes, the entrance way paved with cobblestones where tourists from Germany were driving their cars and parking. No one would have guessed that you could park here who was from somewhere else. But it couldn't help but remind of nobles driving their carriages up here, parking, and entering the palace.
The Schlossmuseum is not so much a museum as an art gallery. It is a great collection of art and I would definately recommend it if you have a few days in Weimar. We were only there for one day so I probably would have preferred seeing a few other things before this.
