“Lovely little bar, with brilliant terrace”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 August 2013

We loved the Botania, and went back again and again whilst staying in Almeria. At first we just visited the terrace, and enjoyed their fantastic tapas, but then ventured downstairs and found the fantastic gin selection.

Great little place, and one of the best bars in Almeria city.

“Experimental and good quality”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 April 2013

We were here dining on a sunday evening, as most all normal restaurants in the central Almeria are closed on sundays. We had reserved a table in the "dining" area, which is separeted from the bar/cafe, but we were the only guests this evening. Botania was recommended by the hotel for its good international kitchen.
And so it was. We had a starter with potatoes filled with mushroom stew, and as main plate my companion got tenderloin of calf and a I a steak; as desert canneloni with caramel mousse (1 plate for 2 was ok). While waiting for the first course there was served an asparagus mousse. We asked for spanish sparkling water. This could not be served, but small bottles of the french Perrier (at an outragious price for local comparison 1,50 Euro for a 25cl bottle of standard Perrier - and Perrier is not that exqiusite).
Everithing we got was of good quality, nicely served, except one of the main dishes was rather cold and the asked "well done" for the meat was not met in the first round, so back to kitchen. This could of course be explained with the different view on how to prepare meat in various countries, so no problem. And then we were charged 1,50 Euros for bread, which we dit not experience elsewhere.
I evaluate this place positively, but would not go there again, as there are many nice restaurants in Almeria, where the food is not experimental, but fine spanish (for which we came for) - 60 Euros for the dishes - not expensive for good quality.
