This property doesn't know what it wants to be, an apartment rental or a hotel. On one hand, there is no reception (and therefore, no help or assistance or even a telephone number to call if there is a problem, the exception being when the restaurant on the ground floor is open for lunch and dinner, even then the staff barely know what is going on with the apartments). So you are pretty much left on your own.
They require advance payment which makes sense, as I'm sure that many people such as myself would otherwise complain about the lack of internet (free wi-fi as advertised on their website never worked), or the fact that the kitchen and bedroom are poorly stocked, i.e. virtually nothing to actually cook with except for a pot and a frying pan (hardly any kitchen utensils, just a micro-wave for heating food), sheets that don't fit the bed and come undone overnight, and a whole host of little "niggly" details that at once show the proprietors have never tried sleeping in their apartments to see if they are user friendly, nor do they really have much of a clue how to properly set up apartment rentals. The furniture looks sleek and modern on the website but everything there has the veneer of cheaply made furniture of a quality below that of what one normally finds in a three star hotel.
Their policy of a 10 a.m. check out, requirement of the guests to do all the cleaning themselves (even upon departure), and a price list of the cost (and inevitable charge to your credit card) for broken items rounds out the unappetizing menu at 16:9 apartments.
In interest of full disclosure, I failed to read in the information sheet the fact that we had to leave the apartment at 10 a.m., when the cleaning lady knocked at 10:30 and rudely informed us we had to get out or we'd be charged an extra day, this after an unsatisfying stay of a week. When I wrote to the manager to express my dismay for this type of treatment, I received an appalling letter from the proprietor, J L Pablos, calling me a liar (for having mentioned to the staff that the internet did not work, despite my specifically asking before arrival to be sure that the connection was functioning), a lout, and an un-educated idiot who was wasting his time.
I find it incredible to believe that this individual works with the public to address anyone, much less a paying guest, in such a rude and insulting manner. His anger-filled letter made it very clear that in my (many) subsequent visits to Almeria I will not be patronising either his restaurant or his apartments, and I am encouraging all those who care about a minimum of professionalism and quality standards to look elsewhere as well.
