Description: This tavern is situated adjacent to the central San Miguel Square. Serving guests on three floors, the eatery belongs to the touristic consortium “Tabernas de Córdoba”. According to notes of Cordoba annalist Francisco Solana, the tavern has been existing since the beginnings of the 1940s.La Montillana’s menu list features dishes typical for the Cordoba area, including traditional Salmorejo, oxtail, Flamenquín, eggplants, suckling pig and codfish. There are different daily recommendations, depending on the respective season. The first floor harbors a hall with capacity for 50 - 60 guests. The second floor has another hall, which accommodates smaller gatherings. Both halls have a bathroom and a wardrobe. Large windows allow perfect views of the San Miguel Church with the large rosette in the facade.La Montillana’s decoration reflects the bullfight tradition. Among other items, the life-sized painting „Picador“, created by local artisan Fernando García Herrera, is impressive. Also worth mentioning are the works of painter López Canito, including paintings depicting the so-called five caliphs of bullfight – Lagartijo, Machaquito, El Guerra, Manolete und El Cordobés.This tavern also has an extensive wine list. Guests can choose from more than 50 wines.

We were recommended this restaurant by our hotel as one frequented by locals and visitors and were not disappointed. It was quiet when we entered but got busier as we ate. Service was attentive and menus were available in English if needed. We found the portions for the tapas and the main plates to be very generous and ordering three tapas to start meant we could not quite finish our main plates! We sent our apologies to the kitchen! We found the food excellent and authentic. Well worth a visit!

It is a little bit more expensive (around 15€ por person, depends of course on how much you it) but it is totally worth it. Althought we came in a very busy day, the waiter was very nice and quick. Food is excellent.

Nice little Taberna, slightly off the beaten track. Lovely selection of Cordoban dishes, served by helpful waiting staff. Good value for money

Went here based on TA reviews and also a recommendation from our hotel. After finishing our first drink (some rather uninspired montilla), we almost left because the waiters seemed to be consciously ignoring us, even though there were almost as many waiters as customers. We decided to have another drink and try at least a couple of Cordovan tapas -- flamenquin and salmorejo. Both were terrible. The salmorejo was gloppy and flat tasting, and the flamenquin tasted like it had been pulled out of a bag and put in the microwave.
Maybe they were having a bad night. But it makes you wonder if a place can't perform on these standard dishes. There are much better places.

Hi we went there today as they were in the annual tapas competition and we have to say that the food was very good, we had 3 tapas, one that they came 3rd place in the competition.
The wine was excellent and we were helped with our choices ...
Mateus is an asset to the business and we ended up having dessert as when he described it we could not resist. Mateus needs to run food tours as he is passionate about the food and wine especially jamon ..... He also told u s of places to go and visit as we are very interested in food, thanks for the great service we wish we could have spent more time with you exploring Cordobas cuisine and wine.
Thanks, 2 food loving women from Australia
