“Acceptable Alternative to Luxury”
Reviewed 11 April 2014

No, having just come from The Ritz in Madrid, the Mezquita was a bit lacking in the luxury department. That makes it a good money-saving option for those who have chosen to splurge elsewhere.
For me, the beds were too hard and the noise too loud - our room was on the 3d floor and although not directly on the square in fromt on the mosque/cathedral the noise was disturbing. Quite possibly there are quieter rooms on internal courtyards - ASK.
Someone mentioned no elevator;however, there was indeed one that lead to my section of the hotel.
The staff was by no standard proficient in English, fine by me as I wanted to practice Spanish. Everyone my son or I encountered was friendly and helpful, with the possible exception of the "breakfast lady:, who was a bit of a martinet.
The room was spotlessly clean and the bathroom more than adequate. Yes, I would stay again.

Room Tip: Inside courtyard rooms have to be quieter than those that front the mosque or the little square and...

Although old, the hotel is located right in front of the Mezquita and the rooms are spacious. You have to carry your bags up a floor but the service is extremely friendly. They even have lockers in case you want to leave your things after checkout.

Pretty hotel & great central location but parking impossible & in the loudest square near the Mezquita. It was incredibly noisy with busy nightlife & drunks singing outside all night long so impossible to sleep. Also amenities were incredibly poor- not even soap was provided!! Very annoying not to have basics like hair dryer & shampoos etc as parking is very difficult to find. Had to park ages away & take just what I needed for the night with me as I've been travelling around Spain for 10 days & had a large instead of small overnight bag. Didn't feel comfortable lugging luggage around & risking getting robbed! I was more than happy doing this in all the other paces I stayed even Malaga & Seville! Wish they had mentioned the difficulties when I check in or on their website so I could had prepared better / booked a different hotel!!

Our second stay here & worth coming back to: right in the heart of the old town with lots of rooms facing the east side of the Mezquita, minimal traffic noise given the traffic restrictions (or you can get an inside room onto a courtyard), plenty of character to the internal courtyards and the old furniture in the public areas, comfortable beds though a bit on the small side, friendly staff, good self-service breakfast, wi-fi, parking next door - and relatively cheap. Feels much nicer than its official 2-star status. We thoroughly recommend it.

A hard-to-beat experience right in the heart of Cordoba, just metres from entrance to the Mezquita and beautifully capturing the romance and atmosphere of its location. Room was a good size, very clean and very quiet (next to no vehicular traffic in the narrow street). The hotel itself is built around a central courtyard in traditional Andalusian style and was a bit of a treasure trove with interesting pieces of furniture parked around the walls.

Stayed two nights and had the smorgasbord continental breakfast on last morning. It was a good spread and not bad value at 6 Euros.

Room Tip: No harm in asking for a view of the Mezquita wall

Lovely old villa has been refurbished & is very comfortable. We had room 9 with a window on the courtyard where breakfast is served. Very quiet, large bathroom. Staff was very helpful and all spoke very good English. Note that you cannot drive to the hotel without getting a ticket. The hotel receptionist called the police station for us as we inadvertently drove into the area behind a huge truck thus missing the signs. We ended up going to the police station for resolution & were assured that no ticket would be issued. However we are now being billed by our car rental company so all is not resolved. Breakfast is very good (for an extra charge). We would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: Room 9 has 2 twin beds, large bath and no window on the street---thus is very quiet.

Amen to what all the other reviewers have written. This hotel is in an old, beautifully-preserved building across the street from the Mezquita-Catedral. My friend and I had Room 11 (if I remember correctly), which has 4 single beds, so we had plenty of room. The desk clerk during the day spoke English fluently, and the night clerk that spoke only a little English dealt very patiently with my fractured Spanish.
Most important: Stay overnight in Cordoba, preferably at this hotel, rather than making it a day trip. Wake up early, as I did, stroll out into the early morning dark, and walk entirely by yourself all around this ancient edifice on those ancient stones. Go into the Mezquita at 8:30, before the milling crowds arrive, turning the place into a tourist attraction rather than a deeply spiritual space.

Room Tip: Room 11 was big and completely quiet. Like the other rooms, I think, it has no exterior window, just...
