“Alcazar good; gardens great.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 November 2013

Visited Alcazar prior to a tour of the Mezquite. Medieval castle structure occupied by Visigoths, Moors and Christian kings. 2 towers with nice views of the town, a couple of rooms with furnishings from the later period. Some nice Roman mosaics in the main hall. Kids seems to enjoy the medieval castle ramparts and towers. The real star here is the expansive gardens with a main allee of manicured cypresses with statues and long pool fountain. Various other water features, box hedges filled with flowering annuals, topiaries, palm and fruit trees and potted plants. Morning or late afternoon visit is best when the sun is not beating straight down. 1.5 hours max.

“Lovely gardens and atsmospheric building”

The gardens are what attracted us to this but the building was quite interesting as well. Particularly liked the roman mosaics.

“Lovely views, pleasant climb”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 October 2013

My friend and I visited this castle late in the day after having visited Seville's Alcazar in the morning. Not surprisingly, this one suffered by comparison. Yet we felt it was quite lovely in its incompleteness; it hasn't been "fixed up" so much as other tourist attractions, and somehow that made it more poignant. I loved standing on the highest points and looking out over the Roman Bridge, the bell tower of the Mezquita, and the orderly gardens and stately cypress trees. This place is an easy walk from the Hotel Mezquita, where we were staying, and we felt our visit was worth the effort.

“Great gardens”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 October 2013

The building is forgetable as it is very plain and nothing to other Alcazers which I have seen, however the room with the roman mosaics is well worth finding.

The highlight is the gardens with the variety of pools and planting. Even in October this was a delight but in the spring when the blossom is on the fruit trees and the flowers are just blooming it must be wonderful.
