Owner description: Created by Real Order in 1844, Museum of Fine Arts, Cordoba went over through differnt city buildings until 1862. On that date Rafael Romero Barros came to work like curator-restorator and the Museum finally established in it actual place, the disentailed Hospital of Charity at Plaza of Potro. This building was built in late XVth century, being alterated in XVIth and XVIIIth centuries. The last alteration was in XXth century, under the direction of Enrique Romero de Torres, son and successor of Romero Barros. From 1984, Junta de Andalucia, the regional goverment, manage the Museum of Fine Arts. From that time, the Museum shows a selection of masterworks from its collection. Through its rooms is represented the Cordobesian Art from XVth to XXI centuries, with canvas, sculptures and mural. The room I shows temporary exhibitions with drawings and prints of Museum collection.

For my fellow barefooters: it was really cold at the time I was there, so I wore socks, and shoes to protect my socks. So I can’t say anything about that. And, the usual sentence: free entrance for EU-citizens like me while charging 1,50 € for non-EU citizens is not comprehensible and unfair.

I thought the museum was ok but it didn’t blow me away. It’s rather small and situated in the city center, so you can easily visit it, but don’t expect too much.

Free to enter. Well laid out but from a purely personal viewpoint the content is not my scene. Very religious style art. Interesting but I prefer more modern.

This museum is a very manageable size. The upstairs has medieval/renaissance religious art. The downstairs features 19th and 20th century Spanish artists. One of the artists featured is Julio Romero's father, which is interesting to note and compare if you visit his museum just across the courtyard. It's not the best museum I've ever been to, but if you have extra time, it's a 15-minute walk from the puente romano.

There were some excellent pairings in this small museum but not one description was in English.
