“Interesting - as much in its history and what it says about ancient Cordoba”
Reviewed 28 November 2013

This is an interesting visit - not only in itself as an ancient synagogue, but in its position in the history of Cordoba. An example of how tolerant and cultured the city was almost a millennium ago.

“A small gem”
Reviewed 10 November 2013

We had already visited the other 2 of the 3 surviving Synagogues in Spain in Toledo. This one is smaller and less well preserved, but with beautiful Hebrew stucco walls. Definitely worth a visit while strolling the Jewish quarter.

“Good, but it could be better”
Reviewed 5 November 2013

It is a lifetime opportunity to visit a synagogue that survived during lots of centuries and it is still there almost intact. However, it would be better to have somebody there explaining the main facts about it. It was a free attraction, however, a paid ticket with a guide and a more organized service would be more respectful for what this attraction have represented in Jewish-Spanish history.

“Small but well presented”
Reviewed 31 October 2013

This is a well visited attraction in Cordoba and it is free to enter if you are a citizen of the EU. It is also on the organised tour guide route so even in October we had to wait outside before being allowed in.

When you go in there is a small patio entrance area then the Sinagoga itself, to get a real feel for the place you want to wait for the group you have entered with to leave and then there are a few moments of peace to appreciate the compact beauty before the next group comes in.

“History written in stone”
Reviewed 16 October 2013

This building was only rediscoverd as a synagogue in the last hundred years. One of only 3 synagogues still standing in all of Spain from before the Expulsion it was built in 1315. So if you are interested in this sort of thing it is a must to visit. Signposted once you are walking in the old Jewish Quarter. The reason the original inscriptions on the wall survived is because subsequent owners plastered over the Hebrew thus preserving it. Now the plaster has been cleared the Hebrew is clearly legible and shows these were synagogue inscriptions. You only need 10-15 minutes to visit, the place is small and groups are waiting to enter so you have to move on. We expected to pay a nominal entrance fee but weren't asked to pay anything. Note there limited visiting hours. Check on the web or at tourist information.
