The streets in Cordoba are very narrow. more like old inner-city alleys. If you are in a car, you can reach out your arm and touch the walls of buildings. Imagine that the entire alley is filled from wall-to-wall with people vying for the opportunity to reach the entry way to a patio. Couple that with not knowing any Spanish and the crowd having very limited English. It was intimidating and we felt trapped in the crowd and never did make it into a patio despite joining the "flock" outside of a few of them. I especially placed Cordoba onto our itinerary to see the patios during Patios de Cordoba. That was a mistake on my part.
