The streets in Cordoba are very narrow. more like old inner-city alleys. If you are in a car, you can reach out your arm and touch the walls of buildings. Imagine that the entire alley is filled from wall-to-wall with people vying for the opportunity to reach the entry way to a patio. Couple that with not knowing any Spanish and the crowd having very limited English. It was intimidating and we felt trapped in the crowd and never did make it into a patio despite joining the "flock" outside of a few of them. I especially placed Cordoba onto our itinerary to see the patios during Patios de Cordoba. That was a mistake on my part.

The patios were nice but very crowded. If you move out of Cordoba and go to other places - many little towns have patios very similar

I've been in Cordoba two times and both of them I visited the Patios because there's not a better place to discover the city. There you will find the essence of Cordoba and the essence of Andalusia. The white walls with all those plants and flowers is an image you cannot forget. If you love photography you will really enjoy the visit, because you will want to take photos of every single place.

Best time to visit them is when the festival takes place.

We were treated to open Patios during the festival in June. All unique, beautiful, full of character and the Andalucian culture integrated into the patio display of colourful flowers.

This was so colourful, and so popular, we visited a lot of them, just ordinary people opening up their homes or courtyards for you to see how beautiful they are. We visited some of them most days as they are open nearly all day.
