“An oasis in the city”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 September 2011

Stayed in this beautiful hotel for two nights in September.Very tastefully renovated with modern pieces complementing the historic building. Our dreamer room was a good size and bathroom spacious and well equipped, very comfortable bed and lovely linen. It was very hot while we were there and the air conditioning was efficient and quiet. Tranquil garden and pool area.Staff friendly and well trained. Ate lunch there twice and both times food was good and wine excellent.Only criticism would be that the outside eating area appeared short of staff compared to the rest of the hotel. Some of the decking around the pool needed repair < I saw several people stub their toes !

Very beautiful hotel. Fantastic decoration. Best breakfast experience in spain with a lot of variety and high quality of products. Small but very well organised room and very nice design furniture. Service is what we expected from a five stars hotel (which was not always the case during our trip in Andalousia). The pool is small but beautiful located in a courtyard with orange trees and flowers. We really apreciated it due to the very high temperatures of august in Cordoba.

Welcome on arrival was excellent but as far as service went that was the best it was. In the room the toilet flush was broken, and neither the telephone nor television worked. We informed reception of the problems on our way to lunch in the garden and were given the 'raised eyebrow' treatment. Service in the garden was appallingly slow to begin with and we were ignored for 25 mins. When the food arrived - finally, it was however, excellent. So 2 hrs later we returned to our room for a siesta to find none of our problems had been solved.
After a snooze we returned to reception and asked to change rooms for all the above reasons. This was handled well and we were given a much nicer room with everything functioning but already our romantic 2 day break had been slightly spoiled.
We then had a miserable anniversary dinner on the hotels recommendation, ignoring our better instincts, at Puerta de Sevilla, worst food we have ever had in Spain and then finally when our car was returned having been in the hotel's care since our arrival we found that the front bumper had been badly scratched and had yellow paint all over it and we were then made to feel that we were lying when we said it had most definitely not been there when we entrusted it to them. We were then kept hanging about whilst they investigated it and would still be there now if we hadn't told them we had to leave thus initiating a promised investigation and phonecall. We then had to pay our entire bill in spite of all our inconveniences and much against our better nature as we now have no bargaining power! And guess what - still no phone call in spite of the manager promising to get back to us immediately!
To sum up - lovely boutique hotel, good but not great and therefore overpriced.- and pool area a bit scruffy - cushions badly in need of washing.
Staff not great, too many hanging about reception and not enough in the bar and restaurants. They talk a good one when you arrive and then that is it. Not interested in apologising for their mistakes - never admit liability!!!
WAtch this space re car!!
Badly managed.

Room Tip: Make sure you are not given a room on the road side as it is incredibly noisy.

Dear Guest,

I very much regret the incidents you have experienced during your stay.

Unfortunately, despite the strict revision made by our Housekeeping Manager, unforeseen technical problems ocurred in your room and the technical service tried to solve the problem as soon as possible, but it took longer than expected. For your convenience, we offered you an other room, with the intention that you could fully enjoy your stay.

We are glad to know that you enjoyed our restaurant service and we apologize because you had to wait for the pool service. Our two waiters attending the pool are always trying to give the most personalized attention to our guest.

Concerning the restaurants outside the hotel, and when our guest ask for some recommendation, we use to recommend different options, to give the guest the possibility to choose the one that suits his taste. Those restaurants are listed in several guides, being recognized for their good reputation. Nevertheless, we can not control their service on a daily basis and I am sorry to tell you that the hotel can not be responsible for establishments out of our administration. However, we take note and will contact them to inform about your dissatisfaction.

At this point, we are investigating the issue of alleged damage to the car occurred on September 7 and as we promised, we will immediately contact you as soon as we receive the complete report made by our security service.

Thank you to give us that opportunity to clarify these issues and we sincerely regret the incidents.

The hotel is one of the most impressively designed we have stayed at and we had an excellent four days here. Staff are very friendly and the service overall is excellent. Only drawbacks to the place is that there is no gym and that oddly the TV has no English language channels (so no news at all!). Free wifi. The breakfasts are very good - excellent selection and the dining room is very impressive. Dinner is also good though the dining room doesnt work nearly as well in the evenings. There is a small swimming pool outside where you can sun bathe as well as a courtyard where you can have lunch.
The hotel's tapas bar was closed three of the four nights which was shame
Definirtely recommended..

The spa is small but good - no changing rooms. There are some "Roman baths" there but I think probably a sauna and a jacuzi would be more useful!

A perfect escape, a hidden gem, and divine. Stayed here for a birthday treat, and the only difficulty we had was getting to the hotel using the rental car's satellite navigation system. Desperately want to return and wallow in the pleasure and beauty of the rooms, gardens and services on offer.

Room Tip: We stayed in was the Gran Capitan Suite

We had an oval room covered in frescos--just gorgeous!
Service--tries hard, but a little disorganised at times. They are friendly though
Pool and surrounding areas--lovely though pool is not small.
No gym equipment if you are about that kind of thing.
Breakfasts are good but the hotel food at other times is rather hit or miss.
Underground waters are heaven.
It is a bit of a paradise. Stylistically--just perfect--couldn't ask for anything better.
Would not stay anywhere else in the area.

Excellent location, beautiful palace, perfect garden with Cordoban atmosphere, nice rooms. What else would a traveller want? (Maybe a little more view from the rooms...)

Room Tip: Our room (204) across the garden did not have any view and was a bit too close to the elevator...
