“Wonderful calm oasis, utterly lovely”
Reviewed 12 August 2014

I knew as soon as we arrived and saw the pretty courtyard, stylish lighting and candles that we were going to like this hotel. It was exactly what we hoped for; relaxed, comfortable, stylish and interesting (it has Roman ruins underneath the hotel restaurant, which you can ask to see, and is worth a visit as the mosaics and some of the colours on the walls are in quite good condition). We only went for the cheapest room (the dreamer room, room 110) but it was quite big with a little balcony and a large bathroom. For the price we paid and the quality of everything, I feel we got a really good deal. The pool area gets very busy after 3.30, but we always managed to find a lounger. It's not huge, but the hotel only has 50 or so rooms, so it doesn't need to be, and I prefer a smaller area than a huge, resort style area. The courtyard where the outdoor pool is placed is housed amongst orange and lime trees, very peaceful. The only danger is falling oranges, so be careful where you sit! In this area is the tapas bar, the food there was fine for a lunch snack (the main restaurant is amazing, best food in Cordoba by a mile) and you can eat and drink by the pool if you prefer. We didn't use the spa, but did use the Roman baths, which were not quite as nice as they looked on the picture, better when they lit the candles though and still very welcome after walking around in the heat all day.
Lovely, helpful staff, my only suggestion for an improvement is that they seemed understaffed at times. We often had to wait a while at reception and it was hard at times to find anybody from whom to order food or drinks by the pool.
The hotel is a little walk to the main attractions, around 15 minutes, but we knew that when we booked and if you're feeling really lazy, you can hop in a cab for 5 euros. The fact it was out of the centre only added to the feeling of calm and being away from everything. Would absolutely recommend to anyone and for the price and facilities available, would say this is one of the best value hotels we've stayed in.

We are staying here for three nights and we're enjoying every minute. We were upgraded to the 'Don Quixote' suite which is fabulous. Staff are efficient and attentive. We arrived fairly late to Cordoba so we decided to have dinner at the hotel on the patio. Food was gourmet, and beautifully presented. Very, very romantic! Prices are quite expensive, however. For example, we ordered two gin/tonics with a bottle of sparkling water late one afternoon and the bill was 31E. Grounds are lovely and the pool area is a bonus. Lovely indoor spaces as well.

Room Tip: All areas are so pretty. Perhaps avoid a room on the street as someone mentioned it might be a bit n...

We spent a night here during an organised tour through Spain and Portugal and it was a delight. Access to the hotel is limited due to the narrow streets around, but we found it charming and convenient to eateries and shops. We stayed in one of the rooms on the first floor at the back of the lovely courtyard near the pool and it was charming. It was well appointed and there were even rose petals scattered on our bed! No problem with wifi either as there was a router in our room. The staff were friendly and helpful and we had a lovely meal in the tapas bar. Would stay there again in a heartbeat.

Though it's in the historic district of Cordoba, the Palacio del Bailio was difficult to find and a bit of a far walk to the Mezquita, Alcazar and the other major tourist sites. Reception was not your typical big desk with people standing - it was a small desk with a sitting receptionist off to the right of the entrance. If not using the lifts, the stone staircases are quite wide and full of character.

The rooms make use of the stone walls, hard wooden floor and wooden doors of the previous palace that had been renovated. It seemed strange at first to be looking at the bedroom stone walls that were probably nearly two hundred years old. The two windows are high and look like church windows with their gothic like arch at the top. The windows have great wooden door covers, aside from the draw curtains - a nice touch. The rest of the decor is quite modern - wall panelings, clothes cabinet doors, desk, TV on the wall. There were enough English news channels unlike in other hotels. The bathroom wash basins are quite uniquely modern as well - cute.

I wasn't a fan of the light system. Instead of lamps, they used spotlights from the ceiling. They were too bright - and it was difficult to read in bed when the light was coming from directly above. Also difficult to work on your laptop with the intense light reflecting off your trackpad.

Breakfast was in the inner courtyard - as most old palaces had one in the centre of the compound. You ordered eggs cooked to order - though it did take some time before it came out of the kitchen. You also had coffee brought to you by cup, not by pot so you had to ask or they would ask if you wanted a second cup. Food selection was good, with jams in separate spoons rather than the small bottles I'm used to. Similarly, butter were in small low cups which we used to get in small sealed packs elsewhere. The main waitress was very polite and attentive.

It's quiet, away from the crowds, a bit far from the sights but enough good things about Bailio to recommend it over most others.

This was a lovely serene designer hotel with fabulous service, a great breakfast buffet of the highest quality, lovely rooms and attentive friendly staff. We had room 202 with huge sliding doors overlooking the pool and patio....highly recommended. A good location too.

We spent only one night at Bailio and we wished it would have been a longer stay. The room ("Dreamer") was comfortable and spacey. We were lucky to get a room towards a small patio ( room 119) so it was silent and cool. Pool area is small, dining garden nice. Food was brilliant, both dinner and breakfast. Staff was very attentive and helpful.
