Hospes Palacio del Bailio
Ranked #4 of 65 Hotels in Cordoba
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 8 April 2009

This hotel is hidden gem in Cordoba, tucked away in one of the narrow streets nearby the historic jewish quarter. It is an old palace that has been renovated throughout to house the hotel. The decor in the whole building is chic and trendy yet very functional. The room was a bit small, but quite nicely furnished and surely one of the best beds I ever slept in! Service was also first class, with the room cleaned 2 or 3 times a day.
There is a spa at the hotel with a small Arab bath. Though the spa menu is short, the service is quite attentive and professional. The hotel also has a swimming pool, but it is open air hence off limits in the winter. There is a very good buffet breakfast, or an a la carte menu when the hotel is not so full.
The Hospes Palacio del Bailio is without doubt amongst the best hotel options in Cordoba, especially you prefer to stay in the historic quarter. It os a calm, secluded place with top notch accommodation and service. I'd definitely come back here when back in Cordoba. Just one tip for when you go: try not to be there on a Monday, as many of the city's attractions will be closed.

Spent New Year's Eve at this beautiful hotel. An amazing experience. Staff is great, food is amazing. The rooms are clean, the bathrooms huge and modern. The only thing I do not recommend is the Room Service. It took ages and the burger was very raw. Apart from that I would stay there over and over again.

Beautifully designed hotel, splendid staff with the added bonus of spectacular roman ruins that made dining at the Palacio a unique experience. The restaurant is a little pricey but huge amounts of money have been lavished on this place and it is worth selling your granny if it enables you the chance to stay there.

Stayed here for a couple of nights and the hotel was impressive. I was in 119 in a standard room - a bit of a strange design in that the window ran across the whole room giving it a bit of a "big brother" feel (ie the feeling that you could be watched!). Apart from that though, the decor and location of the hotel are excellent. The staff are really helpful and friendly - nothing is too much trouble for them. Dinner seemed a bit on the pricy side (although that might be partly because of the pound's depreciation against the Euro!), so I didn't break the bank. Breakfast at 38 euro or so each is a bit of a rip off despite the variety on offer...I didn't try the spa, although it looked excellent - I tried the atmospheric arab baths in town for less than half the price of a massage at Hospes. For those whom money is no object though, this would make an excellent hotel as it ticks a lot of boxes! The interior is stunning and it is a joy to walk along the beautiful corridors and courtyards. It reminded me a bit of Jnane Tamsne in Marrakech...Ah, the only other flaw is - if you want to be very close to the Mezquita, don't stay here as it is quite a trek into the Juderia.

Booked only the day before so we had no idea how special this place was. The best of Spanish mdernism in an old biulding. Staff spoke perfect English. Food was fabulous and while not cheap was the best we had in Spain. Also the service over dinner was very attentive. Had the "tastinfg Menu" (5 couses @ Euro 55 pp) A real gusto experience.
The spa and roman baths were both lovely as were courtyards and setting.Bedroom was ultra modern in the most tasteful and practical way. Loved it. Would make a brilliant venue for small overseas wedding

The Hospes chain seems intent on being associated with the best sleeping experience for travellers...and, I have to say, the Palacio del Bailio is one of the best examples. The rooms are all designed for maximum sleep comfort...including soundproof walls, comfortable beds, pillow menu, mood lighting and even a hotel sponsored 'research book' to read on How to get a good night's sleep...ok, we got the hint. But, after touring Cordoba all day, eating and drinking well and a dip in the Palacio spa pool - trust me, you will sleep!

The hotel design is a bit over-engineered and self conscious. (note: watch your head while walking on the second floor for the lighting shades...at 5'9' above the floor you might hit them! And, the restaurant is not really very comfortable...cool, 'hip' and trendy, but not comfortable. The staff try hard...and, one does get the perception that there is a Hospes 'style' that is being rigidly enforced. However, it does all seem to work. Having looked at other hotels in Cordoba, this truly is one of the most modern. Located near the 'new' city centre - it is a walk (downhill) to the main touristic sights...but, it is easy to get taxis. If you drive, beware - the streets are narrow and it is difficult to find.

The spa is small, but very atmospheric and the massage was excellent. I think the hotel is mainly geared for Madrileno weekend breakers/ or for 'special/romantic' get aways...

We loved the city, and the Hospes...when we go back, for sure we will stay here.

My wife and I just finished a two-night stay at this hotel, part of the Hospes chain of boutique properties.

We stayed in room 201, the Gran Suite Loft. We had a terrific rate, 280 Euro/night, for a room that was easily 50 sq.m. (about 600 sq.ft.) It included a king bed, flat screen TV, DVD player, sitting area, separate tub and shower, and two sinks. Being on the top floor, we had windows on both sides of the room overlooking the hotel roofs and surrounding buildings. It was a beautiful view of sunrise and sunset.

The hotel is a former palacio, part of which dates back to Roman times. The structure is a complex of buildings including the Roman house as well as 17th century homes.

The hotel offers five-star services including a spa, restaurant, tapas bar and lounge.

The Senzone restaurant and lounge is located on the ground floor of the hotel. It has a glass floor which allows you to see the ancient Roman baths while dining. The baths have a beautiful mosaic floor. The restaurant is open for breakfast (8:30-12noon) and dinner (8:00pm-midnight).

The Tapas bar is open for lunch (12noon-4pm) and for dinner (8pm-midnight).

The patio of the hotel has a pool and orange trees. Each day the hotel staff places oranges that have fallen from the trees into bowls. These are wonderfully fresh oranges and great for an afternoon snack.
