“cheap but not so cheerful”

Made the mistake of going along with a tour guide's recommendation. OK it was cheap (EUR12) but I know restaurants in Spain where you can eat really well for that. The menu was boring and the food uninspired.

Excellent tasty tapas, 2€ and large portions. I fully recommend Carne con Tomate and Carne al Jerez

They have set menu for lunch like menu 1(12 euro),2(11euro),3(9.8euro) and 3 more. I tried menu 2. Garlic soup, grilled pork and flan ( including a drink)
There are 3 or 4 dishes for each plate to choose from.
I enjoyed the soup, but the pork was OK. It is a set menu after all, you shouldn't expect a lot. Overall, it is ok place to have meal. If I ever have a chance to visit EL TABLON, I definitely try tapas, not set menu.
When I visited there, Japanese tourists occupied almost every table. It seems there is a tie-up between EL TABLON and Japanese trabel agency.

This place is not chic at all, it is more casual.

This meal was so bad it was ALMOST laughable...this is a local establishment that has clearly just given up on any kind of culinary pride and is now simply serving the tourist bus trade...and those unfortunate single diners who find their way here after reading a decent and completely undeserved write-up in a major guidebook... Our "menu del dia" consisted of a plate of sliced canned mushrooms covered in salad dressing, proceeded to a plate of really sketchy looking tasteless bony chicken pieces with french fries, and concluded (not soon enough) with a pudding cup from the supermarket still in its little aluminum jacket and ice cold out of the refrigerator, with the "caramel" in this so-called "creme caramel" unpleasantly congealed. At this point, I completely gave up in disgust; clearly, the operators of this establishment have also given up. Very sorry performance...that really spoiled an otherwise delightful day in Cordoba.
